One of the biggest misconceptions about raw feeding is that it is SO much more expensive than feeding kibble. For high-quality, human-grade meat, yes, it can cost a bit more, but when considering the health benefits (both long and short term) and the quality of food you know your dog is getting, we (and our loyal customers) believe it's worth it.

There are quality, affordable brands out there, Durham Animal Feeds being one of the most popular brands we stock at Borders Raw. Price per day is dependent on the age and weight of your pet, but Durham Blocks (454g) start at just £1.40... with one block being roughly the recommended amount for dogs weighing around 18kg - up to medium dogs!

Just like humans, our pets can feel uncomfortable or anxious for a variety of reasons. They possibly don’t like being left at home or being in the car, or they might not like loud noises or cope well with the stresses of change. Any or all of these challenges can feel stressful for pet owners, but there are a few things you can try to naturally reduce your pets’ anxiety…

We have both Licki Mats and treat puzzles available in the shop, both of which can distract and calm your pet in situations that they might find difficult. Our 'Customer of the Month' this month is the lovely Norman! We'll let him introduce himself...

"Woof! My name is Norman, and I’m a super active border collie with a nose for good food. Life took a tasty turn when my ‘pawrents’ switched my diet to Raw because of my pesky skin allergy. Let me tell you, it’s like they discovered the secret to the universe!

The variety of recipes is pawsitively amazing! With new flavours popping up all the time, every mealtime feels like a gourmet adventure. Gone are the days of turning my nose up at my food and watching my pawrents toss it away like yesterday's chew toy. Now, I gobble it all up like a hungry wolf!

And the changes? Oh boy, let me brag a little: my coat is shinier than a freshly polished fire hydrant, my teeth sparkle like diamonds, and my p**p? Let’s just say it’s less “whoa, what died in here?” and more “oh, that’s just Norman’s fabulous diet!”

If you receive our email updates, you may already be aware that one of our most popular suppliers, Raw Factory, is undergoing a rebrand and will now be known as Buster’s Banquet. The quality of their product remains the same, but their packaging has already had a facelift - so you may see a mix of packaging in your orders over the next few weeks as we phase out the old-style packaging.

"Knud is a happy chappy who LOVES his raw food and natural treats/chews and always sticks his head in the box when I arrive home to see what delights I’ve brought back for him.

He mainly eats Durham minces & bones, with occasional Dog’s Butcher. His favourite minces are Meaty Mince, Pheasant or Tripe, and he LOVES the Giant Buffalo Jerky chews."

We’ve had customers ask about the protein content in raw food, with some having received ‘advice’ that they should feed dry food as the protein percentage is too high in raw, and will make their dog ‘too hyper’...

We’ve had a look at some ‘well-known’ dry dog food brands and their protein percentages, and in some cases, their protein percentage was more than double that of some of our suppliers!
