🩺🥳 Happy Friday everyone! 🥳🩺

Just some of the beautiful and brave patients we’ve treated this week… 🐶🐱🐰

Daisy, Sadie, Luna, Elsa and Lily had dental treatment 🦷

Meena, Nova, Luna, Sassy, Emmi, Dolly, Kyla, Roxy and Lyla were spayed 🩷

Simba, Socks and Alfie were castrated 💙

Kyla had a lump removed ❤️‍🩹

✂️ We also performed microchipping and nail clipping services for some pets ✂️

Have a lovely weekend everyone and if your pet visited us for surgery this week, we hope they get plenty of rest and are making wonderful recoveries 🥰🐾

💙🐾 Say hello to Bear! 🐾💙

Bear came to us when his owner noticed that he wasn’t being his usual self and was having difficulty going to the toilet 🐶🚽

Concerned that it could be a tumour, Bear had an ultrasound scan, revealing a hyperechoic mass 🤕 This lead us to perform an exploratory laparotomy 🧑‍⚕️🩺

The AMAZING news?! There was no tumour! 🥳 Bear had an enlarged prostate, which is manageable and not life-threatening - a huge sigh of relief for everyone 🥺!

Castration was the best option to shrink the size of Bear’s enlarged prostate and ensure that he stays healthy in the future 💙

We’re delighted to share that Bear is now back to his happy self and ready to enjoy life to the fullest! 😊🐾

💜🩺 A little insight into what our non profit veterinary practice is currently raising funds for… 🩺💜

We desperately need funding for an X-ray machine. This would allow us to treat a wider variety of cases including orthopaedic surgeries. While some people think a veterinary practice without all the necessary diagnostic equipment isn’t good enough, we want to remind you that we are a non profit and have only been open for just over a year. We could easily treat these more advanced cases if we had the appropriate equipment! 😔❤️‍🩹

🐶🐾 A**l problems in dogs 🐾🐶

A**l gland issues are a common veterinary issue, with impaction, infection and abscesses requiring manual expression.

But what causes them? 🤔

Impacted a**l glands occurs when gland secretions become too thick to empty naturally.

A**l glands can become infected if there is an overgrowth of bacteria (a**l sacculitis). If left untreated, this can lead to an abscess.

What are the symptoms to look out for? 🤔

🐾 Scooting
🐾 Excessive grooming
🐾 Fishy odour
🐾 Whimpering as if in pain
🐾 Constipation or diarrhoea
🐾 Redness / swelling / discharge
🐾 Restlessness / appearing uncomfortable

What you should do next if you think your dog has problems 🧑‍⚕️🩺

Most cases can be treated with an a**l gland expression. This can be done by a veterinary nurse. If you notice that your dog has any of the symptoms discussed in this post, please contact your vet immediately.

Who remembers this sweet girl? 🥺

In September last year, Nova was rushed to us as an emergency after not eating for 7 days and struggling to keep water down. On examination, our vet could feel something unusual in her abdomen.

She was taken straight into emergency surgery where we discovered and removed a large mass blocking her intestines, stopping any food from passing through. This was a high risk procedure but thankfully Nova made a successful recovery ❤️‍🩹

This week, she stopped by our practice and it was truly remarkable to see how well she looked. Weighing just 45kg at the time of the surgery, she has now made it to a healthy 59kg 🥳 RVN Nurse, Allison said she “couldn’t believe it” when she saw her and that she’s “a totally different dog” 🐶🐾

We love to see it! 🥲 Keep shining Nova! ⭐️✨

Ila came to us today as an emergency case. She had a badly cut foot that resulted in her paw pad being almost completely detached 💔 We’re happy to say that she was doing much better after we stitched her up and bandaged her paw, allowing Ila to stay clean and protected ❤️‍🩹
