🐾 Tick Season Is Here! ☀️

With everyone out enjoying the sunshine, fields, and long grass, it’s officially tick season again — and our dogs are right in the middle of it!

Ticks can easily latch onto your dog’s legs and body during walks. They can affect any dog, and it’s important to stay protected. We always recommend speaking to your vet about flea and tick treatments to keep your dog safe, as ticks can carry Lyme disease, which is very serious.

🔍 What to look for:
Ticks often look like small skin tags and can vary in size and colour.

🛠 How to remove a tick:
Using a proper tick remover tool is best (your groomer or vet can help if needed). If you’re confident doing it yourself:
• Slide the tool under the tick, right to the base
• Twist gently (clockwise)
• Lift away carefully
• Check the tick is fully removed (head and legs included)

No tool? A household fork can work in a similar way in a pinch.

🗑 After removal:
Dispose of the tick safely — squash it in tissue and seal it in a bag.

Ticks can happen to anyone, so keep checking your dogs after walks, especially this time of year.

Our first tick of the 2026 season was found today… hurrah! 😅 Stay vigilant everyone!

Meet Julie at D’oggie Groomers 🐶✂️

Julie brings a wealth of experience and heart to everything she does. Before opening D’oggie Groomers, she dedicated 20 years to the fire service, working mainly in prevention and education. She spent her time with both young people and adults, sharing vital fire safety messages and helping people understand the real consequences of fire. Safe to say, teaching has always been in her bones!

After a short stint teaching dog grooming at college in Durham, Julie decided to return to her passion and open her own studio. While she thought she might miss the teaching side, she’s found the perfect way to keep it alive—through mentoring.

One of her wonderful volunteers is Demi Lee, who travels from Hebburn to gain hands-on experience with us. With support from her job coach at the Jobcentre, Demi joins us a couple of hours a week, building confidence and learning essential dog handling skills. She’s working towards completing her Level 2 and 3 qualifications in the future, hopefully with support from The King’s Trust at a college such as Kirkley Hall.

Julie is proud to support Demi on her journey, and we’re lucky to have her as part of the team. It’s not just about grooming your lovely pets here—it’s about giving back, supporting young people, and building our community ❤️

🐾 Monday Fun Facts: Shih Tzu Edition!** 🐾

Happy Monday, everyone! Let’s kick off the week with some adorable and surprising facts about the lovable Shih Tzu 🐶✨

Did you know that Shih Tzus were originally bred for Chinese royalty? 👑 These little fluff balls were pampered palace companions and treated like treasures!

Another fun fact: their name “Shih Tzu” means *“Lion Dog”* 🦁—inspired by their regal look and flowing mane-like fur.

Despite their royal roots, Shih Tzus are super friendly, affectionate, and love being around people ❤️ They’re basically tiny bundles of joy with big personalities!

Work-life balance is clearly doing its thing—turns out a bit of time off makes you remember you actually quite like your family… and love your job 😄

With the sunshine making a rare and glorious appearance this weekend, I fully expect everyone to drop everything and make the most of it—vitamin D is basically mandatory at this point! ☀️

I’ll be back on Tuesday. I do have my diary with me… somewhere… but I need to acquire a pen . So I’ll get back to everyone once I get a signal on my phone.

I’ll still reply to messages when I can in the meantime. Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts!
