After catching a comment on I’m a celebrity about how dog walkers “make a fortune”, I wanted to explain just how untrue this statement is.
Dog walking is far from an easy ride. We graft all year round, in every kind of weather you can imagine and sometimes seven days a week. There’s no behind the scenes team running things while we simply “play with dogs all day”. In fact us dog walkers take our responsibilities whilst caring for your dogs very seriously.
Yes, we walk your pups but we also run a full time business. That means hours of admin, bookkeeping, social media, accounts, onboarding new clients, paperwork, training, invoicing… and a many other unseen tasks that keep everything moving.
We also invest a huge amount back into our work: uniforms, footwear, endless poo bags, treats, first aid equipment, courses, qualifications, vehicle upkeep, and don’t even get me started on the fuel costs (every dog walker feels this pain 😅). Once all that’s accounted for, many of us are earning something close to minimum wage, sometimes less. (Especially the “one to one” walkers)
So no, we’re definitely not “playing with dogs all day and making a fortune”. It couldn’t be further from the truth. But despite the hard work, we adore what we do, our job is filled with so much love and wouldn’t trade it for anything. 🐾
A massive thank you to all of my amazing clients for supporting me and my little business — without you each one of you, Caz’s Dog Walks would just be an idea ❤️
