🐾 “My dog won’t stay on the TheraPlate!” 🐾

This is one of the most common concerns we hear from new clients. Thankfully, as the lovely Fergie demonstrates, many dogs quickly learn just how relaxing and comfortable their sessions can be! ❤️

Fergie first came to Lochiel Pet Therapy for support with elbow discomfort and now attends regular TheraPlate sessions as part of her ongoing wellbeing programme.

TheraPlate is a non-invasive therapy that can help inflamation and pain, support mobility, comfort, circulation, and recovery. Many dogs find the sessions calming and are more than happy to stand, sit, or even fall asleep on the plate while having their session,

🐾✨ Maisie Update ✨🐾

Little Maisie had her follow-up appointment with the vet this week, and we’re absolutely delighted with her progress 💛

After attending regular sessions at Lochiel Pet Therapy over the past 6 weeks, Maisie’s vet was so pleased with her improvement that she has now been signed off and is finally allowed to go on short walks again 🌼🐾

From struggling with stability and mobility following spinal surgery, to becoming stronger, brighter, and more confident in her movement — Maisie has worked so hard every step of the way.

A huge well done to Maisie and her incredibly dedicated owner for all their hard work and commitment throughout her recovery 💛

Dogs in hot cars can overheat in minutes ☀️

Even on a mild day, temperatures inside a vehicle can rise dangerously fast even in the shade and with windows open.

A quick trip to the shops is never worth the risk. Heatstroke can happen within minutes and can be fatal.

No dog should be left at risk but those most prone to heatstroke include:
• Older or very young dogs
• Flat-faced breeds
• Dogs with thick or heavy coats
• Dogs with underlying health conditions

⚠️ Signs of heatstroke:
• Heavy panting
• Excessive drooling
• Breathing difficulties
• Lethargy or collapse
• Vomiting
• Loss of coordination

If you see a dog in distress or showing signs of heatstroke in a hot car, call Police Scotland on 999 immediately.

🐾🌼 Golden oldie Crumble is officially a teenager! 🌼🐾

Beautiful Crumble turned 13 in April — and just look at her go 💛

Crumble first came to Lochiel Pet Therapy to support her recovery following ACL surgery. Since then, she’s continued with regular TheraPlate sessions to help maintain:

🐾✨ Maisie’s Journey with Lochiel Pet Therapy ✨🐾

Back in December 2025, little Maisie underwent spinal surgery, and was being helped with a sling initially, since then recovery had unfortunately been slow. Her owner contacted Lochiel Pet Therapy in April hoping to help improve Maisie’s mobility, strength, and overall quality of life 💛

When Maisie first came to me, she was very unstable on her back legs and struggling with her movement.

Also worth baring in mind dogs can have a nut intolerance. My last dog Kayla had a reaction to peanuts so couldn’t get peanut butter 😉

🥜 Peanut Butter Is Great for Dogs—Until It Isn’t. Here’s What to Know.

Let’s be honest...peanut butter is a fan favorite.
Most dogs go absolutely wild for it, and many veterinary clinics even use it to distract during exams.

Peanut butter has earned its reputation as a go-to treat, and for good reason.

✅️ The Benefits:
When used appropriately, peanut butter can be a nutritious and functional addition to your dog’s routine:

▪️ Rich in healthy fats for energy
▪️ Contains plant-based protein
▪️ Provides vitamin E and B vitamins
▪️ Perfect for enrichment (Kongs, lick mats) and hiding supplements

For many dogs, it’s not just a treat, it’s a tool.
But like many calorie-dense foods, quality and quantity matter.

⚖️ Where we need to be mindful:

✔️ High fat content – Peanut butter is very calorie-dense. Overuse can contribute to weight gain and may trigger digestive upset or pancreatitis in sensitive dogs.

✔️ Ingredient quality – Many commercial peanut butters contain added sugars, hydrogenated oils, and unnecessary fillers.

🚨 Two important safety notes:

⚠️ Xylitol (birch sugar) – A sugar substitute that is extremely toxic to dogs, even in small amounts. Always read labels carefully.

⚠️ Aflatoxins – Naturally occurring mold toxins that can contaminate peanuts. While reputable brands test for safety, this is a good reminder to choose high-quality, well-sourced products and avoid anything that smells off or is improperly stored.

👉 What to choose instead:
Look for peanut butter with one simple ingredient: peanuts (or peanuts + salt). Nothing more.

💡 A note on powdered peanut butter:

This can be a useful alternative:
✅️ Lower in fat
✅️ More concentrated protein
✅️ Easy to incorporate into meals or homemade treats

Just be sure it’s free from xylitol and additives as well.
