Poisoning fears in Inverness after more than a dozen dogs and cats fall ill!
Numerous pets from the Milton of Leys area of the city have needed emergency veterinary treatment in the past two weeks.

More than 20 dog and cat owners in the Milton of Leys area have reported their pet being affected by sickness since March 23.

Some dog owners said they had walked them on a path from Castleton to Daviot woods which crosses the Mill Burn.

It's international dog day πŸ₯°πŸ˜

Putting our 2 resident dogs in the spotlight.

They are characters and such incredible pups, a huge part of our family.
Since opening our doors and welcoming other people's furry family members in to our home Roxy and Taz have been brilliant. They take it all in their stride.

Sending lots of squishy hugs to all of the wonderful dogs we have met since we opened our doors at Woodlands Park Dog Boarding. We have been very lucky to meet such lovely dogs and their humans.

I can not stress this enough!!! This weekend DO NOT WALK YOUR BULLDOGS OR CHOWS OR PUGS OR ANY DOG infact... they can live not walking but they will die in a split second walking out in that heat....... be sure to have lemon juice and follow the advice I put on here next....

What to do it your dog over heats....πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

If your bulldog/dogs are overheating it is imperative that you act quickly. Initially stand them in a bath of cool water NOT COLD!!!! and pour water especially around their neck, you need to cool the blood going to the brain as in severe cases of overheating there is a risk of brain damage from hot blood going to the brain. (Don't turn the hose pipe on them, it may panic them and make them worse & and the first lot of water sat in the hose could be boiling hot water!!) Extreme cold water can send them in to shock, so make sure it's just cool water.

Place ice under their tail (just inside their bottom if you can), keep pouring cool water over them and keep calm, if you panic your dog will panic.
Your dog will go very pale as the circulation system struggles to cope.

Try get them in the bath & Keep going with the water - don't take them out of the bath until the breathing has calmed down, talk calmly to your dog - you will be soaked, your bathroom will be soaked, but you will save their life!!!!!!!!!

Once the breathing is calmer, remove them from the bath but don't dry them, they will still be very pale (inside mouth, gums and inner eyes).

Let them wander but don't make a fuss of them, your fussing may make them anxious and it could start over again. Still don't force them to drink, but make up a rehydration mix ( oralade Gi or Hydrate + for example you can buy this from amazon) and place it in a bowl for them to drink from if they wants to.

Always have a bottle of lemon juice to hand, carry one in your bag on days out as this will be a life saver and cut the phlem from the back of the throat which is what stops the foaming during heat stroke and helps them breath. Sq**rt it into the side of the mouth not straight down as you can end up with your dog aspirating.

Remember now the sun is coming be double weary of your squishy faces, lots of water bowls down, walk in the cool mornings or the cooler evenings if the heat is hot on you it's 10 x that on your dog, the path is burning your feet it's burning their feet.

-This post states β€˜cool’ water not COLD water - cold water can put the dog into shock so make sure it’s cool water you are using.

-Yes lemon juice in high amounts can be toxic but a wee 30ml of it will probably not even give them an upset tummy, I would far rather risk that than watch my dog suffocate to death.

- A cool wet towel under the armpits can also help.

IT WILL NOT KILL YOUR DOG NOT HAVING A WALK, BUT YOU COULD KILL THEM BY WALKING THEM.
PLEASE KEEP THEM IN AND COOL.☺️
