When Donna and Gary from Auchterarder spotted this wee one staggering around their feeding station early yesterday morning they immediately knew something was wrong. They scooped him up, kept him warm in a box with a fleece and a covered hot water bottle and contacted the rescue. World Cup Willie - named by Gary! - is now looking much brighter. He was very dehydrated and a p**p test has confirmed he has lots of internal parasites. Willie has received sub cut fluids and treatment has commenced. He is small at only 342 grams but he’s been up and eating and we are hopefully he will go on to win all his matches 😉🦔⚽️

🥁🥁🥁Open Day Total🥁🥁🥁

We are delighted to announce that this years Open Day raised …. £1187.75

We will still have a little to add to that sum as we have not yet sold the gorgeous hamper - there will be an opportunity to buy tickets at the Errol Gala on 20th June, as well as the hamper we will also have these beautiful embroidered hand made brooches - so come and join us!

Thank you to everyone who donated items, to all the stall holders who came along on the day, to our amazing volunteers and family members who helped before, during and after the day, and thank you to everyone who came along and supported us.
So far this year the rescue has been busier than ever. So many hedgehogs are in a terrible state when they arrive, our expenditure has also drastically increased - price rises have hit charities hard too. Every penny we raise goes on caring for our hedgehogs, purchasing equipment, food, medicines, paying vet’s bills, and improving and extending their environment. The Critical Care Cabin is always full - we move one out to the rehab cabin and more calls come in - your support keeps us going - literally!
So a massive and very sincere THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Open Day - after a grey start the sun eventually made an appearance and was lovely to meet so many folk and talk ‘hedgehog’! Thanks also to all our stall holders - most of whom we now know well offering your support and joining in the day.

Your support means we can continue to offer our gorgeous hogs the care they need - and just after you left another little one in need of help arrived - little Ivy weighing only 371 grams.

A very special family made today happen - and that is the HogSquad family. All the amazing volunteers who give their time and so much more to help our hogs.

Little Ivy on behalf of all the hogs and myself say THANK YOU 👏👏👏❤️🦔

PS - still to count up and you will also have a little longer to buy tickets further hamper - so watch this space!

Update
Thank you again to everyone who responded. Heather brought this little one in but sadly he was in a terrible state. His face and skirt were covered in fly strike but he was so tightly balked it took a while to be able to see his undercarriage. When I did it became clear that sadly maggots had already taken hold and it was too late to save him. He was given pain relief and died around an hour later. Please spread the word to everyone you know
If you see a hedgehog out in the day (dawn and dusk are okay) then please phone a rescue straightaway. Poor soul is at least no longer suffering 💔

Another request for help - there is a poorly hedgehog in Auchterarder can anyone bring it into the rescue in Inchture?

Please text 07484 649027 if you can help

Thank you 🙏

Come along and see us at the St Madoes Games at the school. Lots of fun and games for everyone.

When Mark from Perth first phoned on 27/5 he was clearly very worried about this little chap - and rightly so. Mark had spotted Harold on his wildlife camera and could see he was dragging one of his back legs- he scooped him up and phoned. At the time we were full and from Mark’s description the injury sounded bad so I advised he took the hedgehog to Thrums vets in Scone. The next day I received a call from Thrums - an Xray revealed Harold had a dislocated hip and a badly broken right back leg. He is just a young hedgehog and they can adapt and manage with a missing back leg given the right care and attention. Following a discussion with Emily we agreed that she would operate and we would offer ongoing care following surgery.
Harold was successfully operated on and, having managed to free up a space, he came to the rescue later on that day.
As if major surgery was not enough this little one also had a huge parasite burden and has been a very poorly boy.
He is however finally beginning to eat more and, although still has a long way to go, we are very optimistic about his recovery. His mobility is amazing and he can scoot at quite a pace for a three legged boy! We are taking very good care of him!
Huge thanks to Mark for his vigilance and to Thrums Vets Scone - what an amazing veterinary practice!
