More releases

This lovely trio arrived early July - Skye was 108 grams, Harris 109 grams and Jura 120 grams. They were found by Sophie in her West Lothian garden along with two other siblings - Isla and Lewis (the latter two still needing further treatment) out in bright sunshine. They’d been observed for a while before being lifted but sadly the mum of these little hoglets was nowhere to be seen despite an extensive search of the area. All three have had internal parasites and required a lot of treatment and tlc - however they are now back in their garden 😊. Have a great life little ones and we hope your two siblings will join you soon!

Some of our recent releases - the absolute best part of rescue life!

Starting with ……

Robyn came in as a hoglet, weighing just 105 grams, in July - she’d been seen by her finder running around the street in Alyth in bright sunshine. Robyn had quite a few internal parasites - fluke was especially persistent - however she responded well to treatment and was always a very cooperative patient. On Friday a very healthy Robyn was released to Pamela’s lovely garden close to where she was found. Pamela has lots of hedgehog visitors and this lovely little lady has landed on her feet as she will be very well looked after 😊❤️🦔

We are still running on full but just occasionally a space pops up and when we received a phone call from Jane in Auchterarder we had an incubator available and could take in this little one. Eithne, one of our volunteers collected Mango on Thursday and brought her in. Jane had spotted Mango wandering around her garden in the daytime - she observed for a while as she realised she was a hoglet and had maybe wandered from the nest. Mango continued to wander, she was a bit wobbly and after observing for around 20 minutes Jane went out to scoop her up. Jane also went to look around her garden to see if there was any sign of mum or any more hoglets but didn’t see anything.
Mango was tightly balled up on arrival and was popped into the incubator to warm up. After 30 minutes she was more relaxed and we were able to examine her. She had a very empty tummy but no injuries, aged around 4 weeks old, 112 grams and a little on the skinny side, she’d clearly been trying to fend for herself. Although able to feed herself she showed no interest so we hand fed her over the first 24 hours. Mango is now eating well and beginning to put on weight.

Please, please PHONE if you find a hedgehog in need of help. Whilst we are full at present this can change and if possible we will always answer the phone or return your call if you leave a message. Even when we cannot offer a space we will try to offer advice so you know what to do. Please DO NOT use messenger or texts - whilst we will hear the phone we cannot constantly read messages etc as we are working in the rescue and prioritize the care of our hedgehogs. Thank you.

‘They say I use a lot of newspapers - and me such a clean girl!’

Don’t be deceived folks by this very cute girl - Skye is definitely in the top 6 for ‘muckiest hutch’ 😂💩💩💩

We are running short on papers again - can you please drop some off when you are nearby? We’d request you bring them into the shed at the back of the garage if possible - always some around and we’ll take them from you.

Thank you

Update

Huge thank you to all who donated and bought things from our stall at the Errol Car B***y on Sunday. Massive thanks to all the volunteers who were involved in organising this and being there on the day giving even more of their time - we are so incredibly busy at present and I cannot thank enough our amazing team who just keep giving more and more 👏👏👏

So we raised £172 which will go towards our new rescue building. 🙌🙌🙌
