Myth Busting!
"Poodle crosses don't moult"
"Poodle crosses are hypoallergenic"
Don't get me wrong, I am not a doodle expert, but in my house this is just not true. π€·πΌββοΈ
My boys are both straight crosses with a poodle: Wilbur with a parsons terrier, and Fidget with a cocker spaniel. They both moult, and in Wilbur's case - a LOT!
Don't get me wrong, the hair is different and I find it easier, it's more like wool and doesn't get stuck in clothes or furnishings as much as 'normal' dog hair, and it's definitely not as much.
But as for hypoallergenic - my son has his own house now, so no longer lives with us, but he has always had an intolerance to pet hair. He's asthmatic and gets sneezy and chesty around dogs and cats. When he used to visit when we only had the two poodle crosses, he still had those symptoms, they didn't disappear, and are no worse now we have Jumble who sheds sooo much!
Obviously the amount they shed will depend on what breed the poodle is crossed with, what generation the crossing is (% poodle vs % other breed) and many other things, but if you want a non-shedding breed my advice is to do some research and go for a pure breed that doesn't shed or is low shedding (If you like the poodle element, why not go for a pure poodle?), that way you'll know what to expect instead of being caught by surprise by a cross breed where every member of the litter could have a different coat.
Photos show the little pile of "wool" I removed from Wilbur's favourite chair, and the rug before I hoovered! π«£
