The final keepers from my recent litters...

This is Jasper, a very handsome black silken dumbo 😍

My original heart rat many years ago was a black silken dumbo called Mr Gibbs. He is the reason I fell in love with the silken variety, and is why I chose to breed silken, with black silken being my primary goal.

I'm absolutely over the moon to have black silken back in these litters. Its been quite the challenge to maintain it after getting nothing but agouti and recessives last year, and being denied access to my borrow back breeding bucks who were black in silken and self meant it was slightly more challenging, but the rat gods blessed me this time with everything I need to form a more solid black silken line.

This boy is an absolute sweetheart. He's ever so snuggly, and equally cheeky and adventurous. He's one of the first boys to the front of the cage every time and if I blink...he's off somewhere exploring! He has a decent, solid body type and all round, I'm just obsessed with him.

Very excited to watch this little lad grow up 🧡

All Scevilles receive a kitten pack when they go to their new homes 🥰

Just putting these together before I head off for my afternoon nap before I start my set of night shifts this evening. I finish Saturday morning when kitten collections will begin so I'm trying to be prepared as I won't be feeling up to too much when I finish work 😴

For anyone waiting for replies from me regarding kitten collection - I'll get back to it this evening!

Kitten packs include treats, a handmade toy, and a homing handbook which includes my contact details, the kittens litter, date of birth, variety, all of my homing policies, recommended small businesses, and a discount off of pet toys and rat boarding with me.

Family trees are accessible in the owners group as I like to put the kittens names on their family trees, and majority of the time, people haven't decided on names before they collect.

Just wanted to show a little insight into how I give out information to new homes, and to hopefully portray how much I care about the rats I home out ❤️

Nothing warms my heart more than seeing Scevilles settle into their new homes, and this update is extra special!

A wonderful member of my waiting group recently had an unexpected loss, leaving her sweet boy Florian alone. Luckily, my older litters were ready for new homes, so he wasn’t lonely for long.

The babies are absolutely smitten with their grown-up friend, and Florian seems to be loving his new baby buddies too! They started intros the moment they arrived at their new home, and everything went smoothly. That's one of the many things I love about my line - intros always tend to be easy and I've done most of my intros in less than a day with my own line. They're just super chill and happy to be involved!

I'm so glad the timings worked out and my rats could provide companionship for an older boy who needed some new friends ❤️

I want to be very clear: I will not home rats to anyone who wants them as a Christmas gift or who cannot wait until after the holiday period. Rats are living beings that require commitment, research, and proper care - they are NOT impulsive presents. There is a very big reason ethical breeders do not home rats close to Christmas.

It’s incredibly frustrating when people pull out of homing arrangements after expressing interest for homing in January, especially after being told they'd be contacted with final homing arrangements in a couple weeks, because they've found rats available elsewhere to take home this side of Christmas. This has already happened four times with the current round of litters.

Unless you are genuinely committed to homing rats in January, please do not express interest and have me confirm I will contact you after the festive period to arrange final details.

I value my time and effort in breeding, homing, and communicating with potential homes. I do this alongside working night shifts, running three small businesses, and managing everyday life - it's not easy, and I do not appreciate being messed around. Genuine change of plans is different, and I am always more than understanding, but not with this.

If you are unable to wait a few weeks for a responsible, ethical homing process, my rats are not the right choice for you. I take homing seriously, and I will only place my rats in homes where their welfare is the priority. It also shows a lack of respect for the breeder and the time and efforts involved in the homing process.

Alarm bells should be ringing if anyone is homing rats this close to the festive period. Absolutely no ethical breeder will do this as far too many people want pets for Christmas, whether they say that's the case or not. We do not want our rats to become another discarded Christmas gift when the novelty wears off.

Look at these lovely little ones - aren't they just gorgeous? 🖤

These are from Minx’s litter, and they're just starting to show their silken coat. I've had a grand total of ✨zero✨ black silken in my litters since 2024, despite it being my main breeding goal...and now I've got 2. I've been blessed with these and am absolutely over the moon!

It feels so amazing to have it back - and I have plans never to lose it again 😅

I think it's more likely for the buck to stay, as bucks can be used multiple times whereas does (ethically), cannot. And with my plans for having less Dumbo X Dumbo pairings to keep that top ear, it'll work out better with does that are staying. But we shall see how everyone does over the next couple weeks 🥰

Azalea - 14/07/2024 - 21/12/2025 🌈

It really doesn't get any easier finding rats have passed away in the cage unexpectedly 😔 Coming home after a night shift this morning to find my girl gone is heartbreaking.

Azalea was the only doe in Waffles litter, so of course she'd be staying! Shes always been such a sweet, gentle, loving girl.

Azalea had quite a traumatic time birthing this year. Her hormones got the better of her and she sadly ate some of her babies. The three survivors were scattered around the cage freezing cold and gasping, and I genuinely thought they wouldn't make it. But her cousin Sedona took them on and they absolutely thrived. She never got to nurse her babies - she bounced right back after birthing (and traumatizing me with her hormonal antics! 🤭) and it was like nothing happened. Birthing complications are always a fear with breeding, and I'm just so glad she got through it safely and was okay afterwards ❤️

My girl will live on through her son Graham, and all of her other Sceville relatives here.

It just hits somewhat harder when it's so unexpected 😔💔

I took this photo a couple weeks back of Nebulas doe...she is the most soppy, ridiculous baby I've ever come across!

She'll happily lie on her back on my hand and have all the belly rubs, happily cuddle up in my sleeve like butter wouldn't melt, but when she's running around she is causing chaos just like every other Sceville here 🤭

I think I'm going to have quite a difficult choice choosing my final doe keepers between this little lady and Minx's does. They're all so wonderful in their own ways. I could, of course, keep them all, but I'm trying desperately to be sensible and not have too many keepers, especially as I'm wanting to introduce variegated into my line next year. Being a breeder and pet owner who cares and loves their rats deeply is very difficult sometimes. People who don't care about their rats as pets don't even have to think about such things, because they don't care about spending time with their rats, vet bills aren't an issue because they will just treat them themselves because they refuse to pay for veterinary care or simply cull them - it's all about the breeding, not about loving rats as pets. But that's not me.

Balancing a manageable amount of rats to ensure I can afford them financially, spend enough time with each individual daily, and also care for them to a high standard, whilst also ensuring you have enough rats to maintain your breeding line can be quite a tricky thing sometimes. I'm also not the type of breeder to re-home my rats when I'm done with them and can't breed from them anymore to make space. I honestly don't know how anyone can do that - my rats are family, not stock, not breeding machines. They're here with me for life.

Maybe I care too much, I don't know. But what I do know is, my rats will always have the absolute best for as long as they're with me. 🧡

Last of the keeper intros for now until after Christmas...

This is Astra, continuing our astrology themed names. She's from Ava X Salems litter and is a black dumbo just like her Dad 🖤

She has the cheekiest temperament, most certainly taking after her mum Ava! She's very confident, inquisitive and cheeky. The backdrop fell down on her and as you can see, she was absolutely not bothered 😄

This girl was one of two from Ava's litter. So with such a small litter, I spent a lot of time with the pair of them and absolutely fell in love with this little lady. She's very special and I'm excited to watch her grow ❤️

🐀 Sceville babies looking for homes 🏠

I will have bucks and does ready for their new homes at the beginning of January.

If you're interested in homing Sceville rats, please complete an application form and I'll get back to you within a few days.

Allocations will be finalized after Christmas once I have chosen my keepers from the younger litters. I know how many will be staying, so can allocate homes based on numbers, it'll just be variety and litters to be confirmed.

Next up is Nova ❤️ This beautiful girl is an agouti silken, Sirius' sister. She's the first (and currently only!) silken doe across my five litters so of course she'd be staying.

Her name means a star which suddenly brightens, symbolizing new energy, brilliance, and fresh starts, which seems very fitting. This round of litters haven't been easy - I was denied access to my breeding bucks I homed out to borrow back, which really messed with my plans, meaning I haven't consistently got the varieties and top ear I primarily breed for. I then lost 50% of the babies during the first few days of their lives, and I truly thought all was lost with my line. Despite the initial struggles, these litters have ended up giving me everything I need to continue working hard on my line (in terms of variety as temperament is nailed in my eyes), and given me hope.

So here's to a fresh start with all of the negativity and upset behind me, and this little doe signifies just that. ❤️

The youngest litters aren't really old enough to choose keepers yet, but I have chosen from the older litters so here we go...

Sirius is a gorgeous black top ear buck from Ostara and Kevin's litter.

This little lad is perfect. His temperament is the usual Sceville...cheeky, confident and needy. He loves coming out to explore and spending time with me.

His names Ancient Greek meaning is 'glowing' and refers to the brightest star in the sky.

I chose this name because he deserves mighty name not only for his personality, but for hopefully being what will save my top ear and black silken I thought I'd lose in my line. No, he isn't silken, but his sister is so here's hoping for the next generation of Scevilles!

All of the rats from all 5 litters carry self, so pairing him with the does will give me black silken top ear later down the line 🥰
