As of the 22nd April UK resident pets will no longer be able to travel to Europe on European issued passports. However. When this was announced recently an interim courtesy arrangement (ahem, fudge) was proposed by the EU that passports WOULD be honoured until ”full” be that worming, vaccination or whatever. Recently the Irish released a communique re-iterating the no more use policy but making no mention of the temporary grace period. However what the Gardai says at the border and what they do at the border can vary wildly… This announcement from APHA also makes no mention of interim arrangements but then again it may not, as it is a UK agency reporting an EU announcement. Tellingly the UK will honour Pet Passports issued before 22/4/26 even if the animal is not normally resident within the EU. If asked the Ferry companies seem to he saying they too will accept them. What we dont currently know is if the EU WILL allow entry on older passports as had been reported (but no one can find the source document to prove) or whether they will strongarm this in over the next few days, as currently they are not replying to enquiries to UK OV’s. The truth will probably as ever be somewhere in between so be prepared to either get an AHC as a standby just in case or be prepared for some Douane’s to say “non”, even if you are an EU citizen but are residing in the UK. Once I know what is actually happening on the ground I will update.
Probably the easiest/cheapest local AHC provider, will arrange in Crewkerne
