Calling out to all those scratching their head over how to catch a urine sample from your dog! 🐕
We’re here to help! I cant say I’ll hold your hand through the experience… but we can offer words of advice!
The easiest way to tackle this challenge is to have a ‘uripet’ this is an attachment that is fixed onto the sample pot or clean container. It’s scoop shaped and so allows for easier catching.
You should then put your furry friend on a lead before attempting to catch the sample so you don’t find yourself in a game of tag.
Walk them out to their favourite spot for a wee! when they start to urinate calmly place the uripet into the stream to catch your sample.
Once you have collected the sample make sure to place the lid securely and ideally bring straight into practice. If you are unable to bring it straight to us we ask that it is kept refrigerated to ensure freshness best for reliable results!

We completely understand life is busy, hectic and sometimes the ball drops.
We also appreciate 9 times out of ten this is a complete accident. But to be open and honest, last week we had a total of 26 appointments across our hospital and our branches that weren’t attended.
A friendly reminder that if you need to rearrange this is absolutely fine! But do let us know so we can open the slot to another pet in need. This in turn allows us to have more availability on our consult diary which eases the load for our hospital vets who care for our inpatients and any overflow of sick pets that need to be seen urgently.
We strive always to give the best care possible and managing our diary and case loads is a huge part of ensuring the team who work tirelessly, don’t become burnt out and are able to continue a high level of care, knowledge and love.
Thank you so much for your understanding💙

The sun has shined and we have swam in flea and worm (not literally)
But we have been busy badgering away dispensing mountains of flea treatment. So much so that we have ran out of multiple sizes - Our trusty Val has placed an order to restock our shelves though!
For this reason, we do politely ask that 48 hours’ notice is given where possible to collect flea treatment as we would hate for you to arrive in hope, and we don’t have the stock to fulfil your order.
Have a lovely weekend when you get there and should you need us we are a call away x

The reception girls have been lovingly looking after this little pink plant (they were thrilled with the colour!🤣)
Much to our surprise we came down one day to see it has sprouted a purple flower!
Extra points to anyone that can let us know what it is so we can look into caring properly for our new sprouting friend 🪴

SO! you’ve been asked to collect a urine sample for your cat. You gave the vet the thumbs up, but have left feeling like you’re about to take on a task out of the crystal maze 💎
Let us break it down for you!
Firstly, you want to make sure you have a non-absorbent litter to put into their tray, such as Katkor!
To prepare the tray empty it fully, sterilise using boiling water and pat dry with a paper towel before replacing with the non-absorbent litter.
Now we wait. 🐈 👀
Once your cat has fallen for the disguised tray use the pipette provided as soon as possible to collect the sample and transfer it into the collection pot.
If you are unable to bring it straight into the practice we do ask that it is kept refrigerated (next to the sandwiches will do) and brought in at the earliest convenience!
Simply pop it into reception making sure to relay your pets name and surname so the admin staff can print a label and take it to lab!

Cromwell Vets has been around for generations and is one of an elite group of practices around the world to celebrate over 100 years of veterinary care. The practice at St Johns Street was originally established by Mr Stanley Masterman on the 17th October 1911. It was purchased soon after the First World War by Thomas Hall, a Veterinary Surgeon of 18 years, from Saffron Walden.
In the early years Thomas (better known as Fred) was assisted by his son Ian, who followed his father’s footsteps in veterinary medicine and took over the practice in 1942. Ian had originally planned to join the ministry but instead, he divided his time between the practice and his local church. After the Second World War the practice was predominantly looking after farm livestock however, Ian realised that pets would in time, become an important aspect of the work within his practice. He developed his idea and built the first small animal facilities at St Johns Street where we are still here to this day.
The Surgery grew from the Halls Veterinary Surgery to Hall, Thurley & Soldan to Hall, Thurley, Soldan & Fennell. It was then in the early 1980's the practice was re-named, "The Cromwell Veterinary Group" by the partners at that time. Today we are more commonly known as “Cromwell Vets”.
If you wish to learn more about the Cromwell Vets and its history, the complete story (including historic photos) is available on our website.
Today, the practice is entirely devoted to the care of small companion animals and has surgeries in Huntingdon, St Ives, St Neots, Ramsey, Cambourne and Sawtry. We are also proud to offer the services of the Cromwell ARC, our dedicated animal rehabilitation centre, based at Sawtry. Our aim is to always maintain the traditional values on which the practice was first founded by offering a personal service with integrity whilst embracing the new opportunities made possible by science and technology.
All our surgeries are accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and our Huntingdon site holds certified hospital status. The hospital is also a veterinary nurse training centre of excellence.
In 2005 we developed the Hunts Vets Emergency Service to provide excellent 24 hour emergency care for our pets and also those from other practices in the local area.
It is our belief that by continuing to invest in the development of our team and our facilities, we can work with our clients to achieve what is most important - happy healthy pets that are respected and loved as a member of your family.
