Assistance dogs in medical settings is something you may see every once in awhile!
Assistance dogs, and assistance dogs in training, often accompany their handler into various medical spaces.
This can include (but is not limited to):
- GP practices
- Outpatients Clinics
- A&E
- Dental Practices
- Ophthalmology and Audiology Spaces
Often an assistance dog will be actively working and supporting their handler during their visit, but sometimes they may appear to be resting! It’s important they remain undisturbed and are able to do their job efficiently.
Under the 2010 Equality Act, assistance dogs that are appropriately trained can access medical settings, so long as it is not a sterile environment (ICU / operating room).
At Canine Allies CIC, we provide support with the owner-training of assistance dogs. Interested? Apply via www.canineallies.co.uk or [email protected]
