Wow, what a week! It’s been a lovely one, just a slightly different kind of week for obvious reasons 🥵
I’ve had a few people ask why I’m still walking dogs in this heat, and I’ve even been called a c***t for it.( obviously on social media, where else 😳 )
To be clear, I’ve adapted everything for the dogs’ safety and comfort. Instead of hour-long walks, we’ve been doing around 20 minutes of water play instead, always avoiding the hottest parts of the day. The dogs have absolutely loved it — they’re having so much fun, and so am I (even if I do come home a lot dirtier than usual!).
I’ve also met some really lovely people and their dogs, and seen other walkers making similar adjustments. Honestly, what else can you do in this heat?
Home visits aren’t always a better option either — especially when people have flags or enclosed spaces that are even hotter. I can’t even bring myself to sit in my own garden at times, but I can safely use shaded outdoor areas and water spots.
At the end of the day, my customers trust me to look after their dogs as carefully as I would my own child.
And let’s be honest… soon it’ll be snowing, and then it’ll be “you can’t walk your dog in the snow” 😳
