Are you ridding your horse more?
Are you planning competitions or longer hacks?
If the answer is yes to the above you should start the season with a muscle skeletal check for your horse. Horse can develop muscle tension for many reason but winter can be the worse. Due to longer time stable, eating from hay nets, walking through mood, and less regular exercise. This may have coursed, altered movement pattern, muscle atrophy and tension.
Muscle skeletal check and treatment can help spot any miner issue and help prevent bigger soft tissue injury, make your horse happier in there work and improve the chances of a successful summer season without any down time due to injury.
You also need to look at your horse as a hole. Change in diet and work load will affect your horse saddle fit book an appointment with a qualified master saddler is also really important. You should have a saddle fitter every 6 to 12 months your saddle fitter can advise better on this. Also dentistry when was the last time your horse had their teeth checked? This should be done at least every 12 months more if recommended by your dentist or vet.
There will also be lots of dietary changes happening its important to introduce them slowly to allow your horse digestive system to cope with the changes.
I have spent the winter getting the wait of my cob Jazz through diet and using less rugs and I am now upping her exercise to help keep her summer wait controlled. She is a good due and will be muzzled through out the summer. Whereas my old girl lulu I use the summer to help her put wait on to get through the next winter. Each horse is different make sure you do what is right for them and you for the summer ahead.
