Well, June already! Where is the year going? 🫣

Another busy day again yesterday with hedgehogs arriving down Morley, Brighouse, Ossett and Deepcar..

This little baby was the last to arrive after being found out on her own ..

She was cold, dehydrated, covered in flystrike, fleas and ticks. She had ticks between her tiny toes and her ears and eyes, which were not yet open, were full of fly eggs 😢

Beth came and helped clean this little lady up and took her home to be with another little boy that arrived late on Saturday night 🦔

If you find a hoglet, time is of the essence, please find a rescue as soon as possible and please do not try and feed 🦔

Yesterday was non stop with telephone calls, mainly about hoglets..

One call was from a lady who was mortified that her husky had dug up a nest and had run onto the lawn with mum hog in his mouth, the nest had 4 babies inside..

The finder did exactly the right thing and contacted us immediately and followed my instructions exactly, bringing mum and babies into rescue.. The concern was of course that mum was injured, but thankfully she looks to have escaped without any physical damage. The babies are fine and about 10 days old.

All have been reunited to let mum relax and care for her babies in peace..

Thank you to the finder for acting quickly and also for transporting. She had no idea that hedgehogs were in the garden… 🦔🦔🦔🦔

We had a little surprise this morning in rescue … (Well, it wasn’t really a surprise because I’d suspected it 🫣)

A hedgehog that we have in rescue because of injury to her foot and nose, Lori..gave birth to hoglets in the early hours of this morning ..

(Lori is another returning hedgehog .. she is microchipped and was released in the same garden that she was found..)

Whilst normally I would leave mum and babies alone, my gut instinct told me this afternoon that I needed to check things out and move her to the smaller ‘mum and baby’ hut.. and I’m glad that I did..

Lori, had given birth to 4 hoglets, but the largest of the 4 was sadly stillborn, still in the nest with the surviving babies…😢🌈

Lori and her remaining little ones have now been moved and she will be left alone to bond with her babies 🦔🦔🦔

I received this lovely video of our mummy hedgehog Sara, who was released from rescue in 2023 and came back into rescue this year after being found at the Skelmanthorpe Academy, with her babies…

Sara was released in Skelmanthorpe and has made her home not far from her release site and in a garden bordering the Academy. She has been a much loved visitor over the past couple of years and has been very much missed whilst being here in rescue…

This video was taken in March this year and I am sure that Sara will be ready to go home when she has finished raising her babies 🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔
