Peekaboo!

It's Toby ❤️

He's doing really well, and coming on nicely

He's in with his friend Stanley who came to us as an orphan, and they spend their days playing rough and tumble. we'll look to group them as our first group of 5 as soon as we can move our other 3 cubs (who we currently have on antibiotics) from isolation

We'll introduce everyone over the coming days, and no doubt more will come in that time

The season starts for us on the 14th of March this year

Introducing Toby

Found cold hungry and desperately calling for mum, Toby found himself exposed to the elements and alone at just a week old. It's highly likley that the v***n was disturbed while moving him to another den, but due to the circumstances in which he was found, there is no realistic prospect of reuniting him. This is always our first immidiate priority provided it is safe

He's feeling much better now with a warm bed and full tummy. Staff at the centre are on 24 hour duty, and we're well prepared to give him the best start ❤️

It's Freddie's home time

He was in a mess when we trapped him, but he's done really well in rehab with us, and he's finally ready to go home. His skin is clear and his coat is coming in nicely. It's time now for his second chance at life

Well done Freddie 🧡

Here's sonny..

Suffering with infected wounds on both hind legs but still very mobile, Sonny is one of those foxes who likes to do things their own way

Aside from showing little fear of us at the centre, sonny is a unique fox because he simply did not care that we locked him up. Aside from treating the infection, we ruled out any nefarious cause for his carefree behaviour. During his time with us sonny maintained a happy and playfull demeanor, opting to play with toys and destroy his fresh bed before we'd even finished it most days

Extra special thank you to the amazing member of the public who followed sonny for 2 hours until they finaly managed to corner and tempt him into a dog crate before calling us

He's now home after treatment with us, he's avoided a serious decline with infection and now living life to the fullest 🧡

Remember Freddie?

He's doing really well and we'll be taking him home as soon as he's up to weight

He feels like a brand new fox and he's super eager to get back home. His coat is coming in nicely.

It's always nice to see them exit the transfer and experience the world as it should be, without any of the suffering that dominated life before. Now Freddie will feel the wind in his fur and the grass under his feet for the first time, and with a bright future ahead of him

Well done Freddie 🧡

Guess who? It's Dodger

We've had lots of messages asking how he is. He's up and about, his appetite is great and he is doing really well at the centre considering the state he was in. He was a really severe case, but hes as resilient as they come and we'll soon have him feeling like a fox again. We'll put a full update here soon 🧡

To all our amazing followers and supporters

Whist we count ourselves lucky not to have been in the eye of Storm Eowyn, we have nonetheless been affected.

The adjoining wall to our shop suffered a structural failure on Friday morning, sending some debris down to the pavement. Fortunately, no-one was injured.

A group of gallant council workers were on hand and immediately secured the area – our thanks to them for their swift action. The 2-story wall is not part of our property and is a leftover from some earlier development work. It was instantly condemned and will have to come down completely.

The immediate area has been declared dangerous so we are unable to open the shop until the work is completed.

So, how can you help?

Our fantastic Magic Fox Shop brings in about 80% of the Charity’s income. The team at The Centre are flat-out working with our foxes (who can be expensive patients) and we only have a small reserve for contingencies.

We are asking for £5-£10 donations from as many people as possible to help us get through our non-trading period. We have outgoings of about £8,000 per month and a sustained period of non-trading would put our existence at risk without some additional support.

If you are able to help us we are so grateful to you, and you can make a payment using the bank details or the donations link below:

Without our supporters, volunteers and customers, we can’t function and the foxes can’t get the help they need.

Thank you in advance for your support 🧡

This is Dodger

One of our most recent admissions, Dodger had us running around for the best part of 5 weeks. 3 different types of trap and 3 locations later, and we managed to trap the poor lad in a garden

This is an example of a community coming together, we recieved various reports from residents all within a mile of eachother, allowing us to eventualy home in on Dodger. The residents where also communicating with eachother and sharing sightings of him, wich helped lead to his capture

There's nothing quite like the feeling of relief when we secure a fox we've been after for a while, or one that has continually evaded us. Some foxes are more elusive then others, and even in his current state Dodger gave us a good game before we caught him

As is evident here, he's not having fun, and he's been suffering for a while. Initial examination revealed an extensive mange infection and a multitude of lumps bumps and sores

He's settled in a kennel and enjoying a warm bed, and now we've got him with us, we'll do everything we can to bring him through

Freddie is doing well

Here he is today after a good bath and brush

As is evident here, Freddie was covered in thick mange crusts. Underneath those scabs his skin was dry cracked and sore, paving the way for secondary infections

He was completely miserable when we caught him on new years eve, and had been suffering for some time

As you can see here, after some intensive tlc he's turned a corner and he feels much better. We caught him just before the really cold weather hit, and it's a good job. He's not the worst mange case we've seen, but he is up there. Most of the thick fur he had left has come away with the scabs

Included are 2 pictures taken today to show his progress in treatment with us, and another 3 pictures of Freddie to demonstrate the severity of the infection shortly after we caught him last week

A huge well done to freddie, a brave and resilient little fox 🧡

Happy new year to all of our supporters

It's been a productive year here at Wirral Fox Rescue, we've seen unprecedented numbers through our doors and 2025 is set to be even busier

We end the year much the same as we started, in full swing with every single one of our traps out. We'll be spending the evening on call, and looking after the foxes already in our care at the centre and enclosure sites

Thank you for following us this year, and allowing us to provide a unique insight into foxes and their journey in rehab with us. We couldnt have achieved everything we have without your support, and that's a lot of lives saved..

We hope everyone enjoys seeing the individual journeys here as much as we've enjoyed catching and rehabilitating, and we hope that the publicizing of some of our patients this year has gone some way to show them for the beautiful and sensitive animals that they truly are

More updates to follow on 5 foxes released this month and other foxes in our care

As our new years present to ourselves, and with thanks to the homeowner for spotting him, Freddy (Pictured below) was caught in one of our traps today just as the weather was begining to turn. He will go into 2025 with us safe and warm at the centre

Stay safe everyone, and see you out there

Introducing Millie

We caught her after reports from concerned residents explaining that Millie was out in the day and refusing to move. It's not uncommon to see foxes out in the day, and provided they look well and are reacting appropriately to their surroundings it's usually not cause for concern

Millie however was reluctant, moving only a couple of meters to take shelter under a hedge. If it was just the mange at this severity then we could treat and release her on the spot, but Millie didn't react to us as we'd expect a healthy fox to react, and we noticed that she had a minor injury to her leg. We caught her with a pole from under the hedge to her surprise

She's settled in now and enjoying a warm bed and nutritious meals. We've given a mange treatment and started her on antibiotics. She's made it known to us that she's not happy with her new temporary accommodation, and judging by her overall health it shouldn't be long before she's back home

Good morning from Frodo

He's just about healed up, we'll do a farewell post when it's time for him to go. He's come an awful long way after we found him with a plastic ring stuck around his body wich had rubbed away at his flesh as he grew, creating a deep wound

It's taken some time to heal such a horrific injury, but he's 95% there and home is in sight. He is healthy and feisty and eager to go

Keep it up Frodo, not long now 🧡

Flo is doing well

Here she is during clean this morning

She's putting weight on steadily and moving much more freely. She's finished treatment for suspected toxoplasmosis, and this has corrected her behaviour wich is now much less concerning

X-rays showed that she had been in a confrontation before coming to us, and given her age it's likley this was relating to the trials of dispersal. Exactly what lead her to the busy bridge is unclear, but with the infection it's possible that she's wandered up there weak and hungry, and It all became a bit much for her

She's a little more to go with us, but she's on the up, things are looking good and it won't be long before she's back home with a clean bill and ready for life in the wild

Here's Daphne

Daphne wondered into a small sheltered box before we were due to put a trap out for her. Thanks to the homeowners quick thinking, she was quickly blocked in while they waited for us to arrive

We set the hospital transfer up at the entrance and she walked inside without a fuss. Given the state of her, she certainly wouldn't have survived much longer

She's covered in mange and has been suffering, but she has a great appetite, she's now curled up in a warm bed, and now we have her we can begin to turn her life around
