Did you know these these short legged guys were originally bred to hunt badger?

A Dachshunds favourite thing is to play - particularly retrieving games like fetch and a ball is usually the right toy for the job! Another ball loving breed πŸ₯°

Some more tips to keep your pets safe as we go from Spring to Summer β˜€οΈπŸΎ
Addervoid that if I was you 🐍
Be careful in long grassy environments as adders seem to be appearing more in our local areas. Heather-land, Moors and Woodlands are Adders ideal living grounds so be cautious 😊
Bee careful out there and wasp out for stings 🐝 Our beautiful Bees are sometimes a snack to our pets, and this will result in a nasty sting. If this happens, use tweezers to remove the sting. Bicarb mixed with water can help to soothe the area. Apply a cold compress to the area after. Any symptoms such as vomiting or swelling then call your vets for advice πŸ“ž
Be cowful on fields πŸ„πŸŒ± Cows are still calving and they are extremely protective of their young. If you’re on farming fields, ensure dogs are on leads. Cows can charge and will protect their young if they see you as a threat ❗️
Have a barbe but don’t be in the vet que πŸ— πŸ”₯Corn on the cobs are a very common find in a dog having surgery to remove blockages 🌽 chicken skewers are also a pe*******on risk if they are swallowed.
Don’t flea the scene, just tick it off your list 🐜 Fleas and ticks cannot be avoided. They live all around us on stray cats and wildlife such as hedgehogs. Make sure pets are up to date with appropriate flea and worm prevention so if any critters land on your dogs they will not stay there for long πŸ‘πŸΌ

Unbelievable heel work shown in this video from Paul and Zula πŸ™ŒπŸΌ You can see the work that has gone into Zula’s training and what stands out the most in her focus and concentration. Almost glued to Paul’s side and that’s what we like! She has nothing but respect for Paul and that’s when we know the training is being mastered 🐾πŸ’ͺ🏼Well done guys! Fantastic work πŸ‘πŸΌIf anyone wants to send videos of training or progress, no matter how advanced or baby steps they may be, we love to see everyone’s progress πŸ™ŒπŸΌβ€οΈ

Also, some tips and reminders to keep our furry friends safe this spring 🌻

πŸ’› keep chocolate out of reach! If you’re concerned your dog has eaten chocolate contact your local vets for advice or check out the Animal Poison Line - 01202 50 9000

πŸ’› be cautious of toxic plants - Lilies, Daffodils, Tulips, Bluebells, Rhododendrons and Azaleas - this is mainly due to ingesting the plant πŸͺ΄

πŸ’› We all love a Spring clean - make sure pets are in different rooms and rooms with windows are well ventilated πŸ’¨ sprays and liquids containing bleach are very toxic to pets

πŸ’› Ticks πŸͺ³ they will be hiding on the tips of plants and blades of grass waiting to jump onto their next host - concerns with ticks are risk of Lyme disease so make sure they are up to date with veterinary prescribed ectoparasite treatment

πŸ’› Lungworm πŸͺ±- again, veterinary prescribed endoparasite treatment is needed to prevent this, especially if your dog is prone to eating slugs 🀒

πŸ’› Adders 🐍 - believe it or not these are common in our local north east areas - an unfortunate dog was bitten last week in Elba Park and was taken to the emergency vet immediately πŸ’”

πŸ’› Hot cars 🚘 - do not leaves pets unattended in hot cars without full ventilation! Even with windows down, a car monitoring at 22 degrees Celsius can DOUBLE within an hour and your pet is at serious risk of heatstroke πŸ₯΅

πŸ’› Good old seasonal allergies and flare ups - it’s itchy season! Grass, pollen, dust mites etc. If you’re worried your pet is nibbling between toes, belly, scratching ears; feel hot/lumpy/bumpy; looks red/inflamed have a word with your vet as they may need appropriate treatment. My GSD’s both take Nutracoat which is a fantastic herbal supplement by Nutravet πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

Any questions feel free to ask below πŸ‘‡πŸΌπŸ’›
