We offer specialist puppy training concentrating on starting your puppy off on the first steps of their training journey. We're here to support you and your pup at that critical early stage of development and our aim is to create confident, happy pups while teaching you all the skills you'll need to maintain a successful relationship. Classes are Wednesday evenings 7:15-8:15pm at St John's Church,

Broadbridge Heath, Horsham (booking essential) & Sundays at Warnham Village Hall 10:30-11:30am. For vaccinated pups up to 20 weeks of age. Please just contact us for more information. We really look forward to welcoming you and your puppy to Horsham Puppy School.

✨ Pups get a lot of information from sniffing. For our first introductions to eachother in class, we don't do face to face greetings as it's far too much pressure. Instead we let them sniff eachothers' beds...I like to think of it as the human equivalent of a handshake, not a hug 🐾

Using a long line for recall practice ensures your pup doesn't practice the things you don't want - running away - but has a sense of freedom. Amazing work from this team 👏❤️

🌟Where do you socialise your pup? 🌟 The answer should be "all the places you go" and that might well include the pub as these students found out. Teaching your pup to settle and feel comfortable in places that you regularly visit means your pup can go with you. So many places are dog friendly so ensure your socialisation schedule includes these places 🐾

🌟 Don't fear the food 🌟 I'll often have clients ask me when they can stop using food for training. My answer is... never! Why should that be our goal? Does your employer try and phase out your paycheck the longer you work? Nope! So don't short change your dog. There are clever ways to use food to ensure it's always reinforcing, even if it's not the top dollar, top notch option which means we can use a portion of our dog's daily allowance as well as healthy treats such as fruit and vegetables. Training goals should never include removing reinforcement, find what motivates your dog, use it and continue to reward behaviours you like 🐾

Today on our (soggy walk) we came across two dogs in shock collars. I couldn't hide my sadness on seeing the poor dogs in these horrible devices because, like
Jane Goodall says, these sentient, emotional creatures feel everything. There's no reason to use such barbaric 'training' methods. I'm not judging the owners of these dogs, they've been given some appalling advice and I'm sure believe they're doing right by their dogs. However, I do judge the unqualified trainers advocating these as solutions for various behavioural needs. Being good at social media does not qualify you to train dogs. Hard work, study and belonging to recognised regulatory organisations does. Please don't use shock, prong, choke or any other horrible collars on your beautiful dogs ❤️

🎆 It's coming up to fireworks season 🎆 This is a really tough time of year for our pets. Here's our top tips
✨ Exercise before it gets dark
✨ Never take your dog to a fireworks display
✨ If your dog seeks reassurance from you, be a friend and provide it
✨ Give safe, supervised chews and long lasting enrichment to help them focus on something nice
✨ Create a safe space for them to retreat to
✨ Add ambient sound to mask the outside noise have a special programs l for pets
✨ Use pheromone support such as Adaptil
