Two blanket clips for two lovely coloureds. Owned by two Sarahs!
These two were immaculately clean which made the clip so much more comfortable for both horses. The pre-clipping prep makes all the difference to the final finish and overall experience for the horse.

My next beginner/intermediate clipping workshop will take place on Saturday 25th November.
This will run as a slightly longer format, with a 90-minute demo, 90-minutes clipping practice and a 45 minute interactive fun practical covering assembly and line-work. There will be a break for lunch/tea.
11am - 3pm.

Demo-only passes also available.

A few of my clipping jobs this week 😊
A trace clip for Feabhur & Toby who live out at night through the winter - this is a great way to ensure a bit more protection against the elements but equally keep them cool enough during a light-medium workload.
Little Benjy had a low-chaser clip to suit his lower level of work, removing just enough of his thick Welshy coat to make him more comfortable during ridden sessions.

Show quality clipping services! William had a pre-HOYS full clip plus leg blending service by me.
A huge congratulations to Sophie Simmonds and Pumphill Brosnan (William) for placing 6th at HOYS in their final junior class, owned and turned out by Carrie Simmonds.
I’ve loved watching these two grow together. Back in my early freelancing days I was teaching 6yo Soph on the lead rein, once she overcame her nerves she then progressed into a super jockey off-lead and the pair continue to keep getting better and better! What an achievement to place as the strongest Dartmoor and 6th overall in her HOYS class!

The mega mare (Bella - owned by Melissa Dack) is looking, feeling and going incredible at the moment!! She is my proudest project to date, from a boisterous and rather wild 4yo to a (still boisterous) eventer 4 years on. She'll be making the step up to 100cm ODE very soon and I'm excited to see where this season takes us!
I've been sharing the competing with my long-term sharer and friend, Clare Davenport. It's lovely to see their partnership come together. The pair achieved a 5th place at Coombelands ODE a few weeks ago, and after a sterling performance last weekend, they narrowly missed out on the win after a very unfortunate fall XC just 4 fences from home (Bella lost her footing between a step down to dog-leg skinny combination). Both horse & rider were fine, just a little surprised with their encounter with the ground. 😳

A little peek of the plaiting & groom services which I provided for Clare & Bella over the weekend at their one day event. They came 4th over a very tough 90cm track at Coombelands. Bella was my first ever breaking project and it's lovely to see her performing so well with Clare who has shared horses with me for the last 4 years.

Mixed emotions for my first event of the year (and my first event in nearly 3 years on Bella).
Since bringing Bella back into work post-foal she's been going from strength to strength in her schooling work. All of which paid off yesterday as we managed to gain the only sub-30 score in my section for 29.6 - and quite possibly one of the most challenging sections I've been in for a long while! With 39 starters I didn't expect to hold the lead, but as the day progressed I managed to hold my position, much to my amazement!!
Bella warmed up really well for the SJing, she was adjustable and listening. Sadly, this control vanished in the ring as she decided to opt for a more 'cross country' state of affairs and dragged me round the course with bundles of enthusiasm. 🙄 I managed to get her back before each fence and avoid having a pole... until the very last fence which she took down in a rather clumsy manner. 😭😭😭😭
Despite the 4 faults, we were still sitting in 4th place after SJing - all I needed was a clear XC within the time!
Bella has previously come home with a minute on the clock around munstead, so I rode round with the handbrake on thinking that might be a more accurate speed, as stopwatches weren't allowed. Well, you can tell I'm out of practice as I was wayyyyyy too slow and dropped from 4th to 27th place due to picking up time faults. 🐌
I'm thrilled with her dressage and the way she ate up the XC course, and she had plenty of running in the tank. With a few tweaks we might be in contention for a prize next time. 🙈

Chance turns one tomorrow! As a little pre-celebration he had his first go loose jumping over a little cross pole today.
He's certainly inherited his mums jumping genes!
I'm very excited for his future! 😁
He also had a visit from the dentist and had the gag on for the first time which he tolerated very well. 😍
I'm so proud of him, he's really turning into quite the gentleman. 🤎

The lovely Dolly has sold and will be with her new owners by the evening. Just 1 week on the market, first person to view her purchased her. She has landed with a lovely family and will be working her way back through the levels on the eventing circuit with a young rider. 😊

Rising 7yo, 160cm mare by OBOS quality (Quick Star) ISH.
Proven record BS and BE (20BS points & placed 3rd at BE100 level).
Training elementary at home with plenty of scope to move up the levels on the flat - correct & expressive enough to be a very competitive dressage prospect.
Dolly is exceptionally put together with a very pretty head, she has a good depth of chest and girth and really takes the riders leg up so could easily carry a taller rider despite her slightly smaller size. She has a leg on each corner and a good amount of bone, no blemishes whatsoever.
She is easy to do on the ground, she's really not your average competition horse.
She hacks sensibly in company/on her own, both in open spaces and on the road. Snaffle mouthed.
Good to clip, box, shoe, groom, catch, lead, vet, dentist.
Dolly would suit a professional rider or an amateur rider wanting to move up the levels.

Sally's debut hunter trial
I had the pleasure of taking the lovely Sally round her virgin hunter trial today after her owner was unable to ride due to ill-health. I can't remember the last time I've done pairs XC, possibly back to my early yard-manager days 8 or 9 years ago! It might have only been 60cm (😂) but I really enjoyed myself! She gave me a confident clear round in a beautiful rhythm. Thanks for trusting me with her Sara, she's such a cool little mare 🤩. #FreelanceRider #HunterTrial #CrossCountry
