IMPORTANT, I have noticed a lot of new groomers starting to offer cat grooming, this is not in anyway the same as dog grooming and this one mistake can be FATAL!
If you notice a groomer using or advertising cat grooming and they have a loop around the cats neckβ¦ RUN. These groomers have not done any cat grooming training and are putting your cats at risk and are lucky they havenβt injured a pet yet!
βοΈ Why grooming loops must never be placed around a catβs neck βοΈ
A catβs neck and spine are incredibly flexible but also very fragile
Unlike dogs, cats do not simply hop down. They twist, roll, climb, or launch themselves in unpredictable ways
If they feel scared or uncomfortable, their natural reaction is to bolt immediately
A loop positioned around the neck can place serious strain on the throat and spine during these sudden movements
Even if it hurts, many cats will keep fighting to get free, risking major injury
Pressure around the neck can escalate fear in seconds and cause lasting damage or even death!
Cat safety must always be the priority.
No grooming loops around the neck at ANY time!!!!
What you SHOULD look for in a groomer!
1. Check previous work photos for signs of restraintsπ
2. Ask what qualifications they hold and make sure the are from a UK recognised organisation π
3. Ask if they are up to date on feline first aidπ
4. Ask if they have experience with difficult cats (if needed) π
5. ALWAYS ASK WHAT RESTRAINTS THEY USE. A good qualified cat groomer shouldnβt need any restraints other than a towel for emergency towel wraps to ( secure the legs only ) and a air muzzle (doesnβt restrict breathing) for those who INSIST on having a little nibble.
NO HARNESS
NO LOOPS
ONLY CONFIDENT HANDLING TECHNIQUES and the most minimal/ gentle of restraints
If they tick all these boxes ? Then they are they perfect groomer for youππππ
