It is now compulsory for all owned cats in England to be microchipped, making it more likely that lost or stray pet cats are reunited with their owners and returned home safely.

This includes cats that usually only stay indoors.

All keepers must ensure their cat is microchipped before they reach 20 weeks of age and their contact details stored and kept up to date in an approved pet microchipping database.

Lovely sassy little nova had her microchip done today in the comfort of her own home to ensure she has a lifetime permanent identification. Along with a nail trim as they was super long💅

She then went off to have a long play and run around until she fell asleep 🥰

Lovely Peppa went to Star Grooming- Cat Specialist for a lion cut today. While there Peppa’s owner opted to have Peppa microchipped!

All cats need to be microchipped by June 2024, a £500 fine will be given to anyone whose cat isn’t microchipped by this date.

There are over 9 million pet cats in England, with as many as 2.3 million unchipped!

➡️Compulsory microchipping for all owned cats is coming into place
➡️Owners will have until 10 June 2024 to microchip their cat

Sadly 8 out of 10 stray cats coming into Cats Protection centres are not microchipped which makes reuniting them with their owners an exceedingly difficult task.

Microchipping dogs has been mandatory since 2016, despite this dogs sometimes still are not microchipped or their details kept up to date.

But does microchipping help reunite pets with their owners?

In a report by Battersea 94% of stray dogs that were fully compliant with the microchipping regulations were reunited successfully by Local Authorities with their keepers.

Accurately microchipped dogs are 54% more likely to be reunited with their keepers or owners than unmicrochipped dogs if they go missing.

When polled on Veterinary Voices UK 100% of veterinary professionals scan ALL stray cats to help reunite them with their owners.

If your cat is microchipped already:

✅ Check you have your cats microchip number handy
✅ Check you know which company they are microchipped to
✅ Keep all details up to date
✅ Flag your pet as 'missing' as soon as you have concerns they are lost

New law to be approved as of 13th March 2023

All cats in england must be microchipped by the age of 20 weeks or if past this age prior to the law coming into force much be microchipped by 10th June 2024 or you could face a fine of up to £500

How does microchipping work?

If you are located in Essex we are mobile to you!

We implant a small rice size chip into the skin between the shoulder blades. It is quick and secures there forever ID which will help them get taken back home in the event they get lost. We charge £15 for first pet any additional pet is £10, a small call out fee May apply depending on your area.

What happens after it is implanted?
We then register your details on the microchip and send you a reference code. You make a account and put in the reference code where your pet will then be transferred to your account. The microchip manufacturer will then ask for a one off payment of £10 for life time access to be able to change any photos and detail such as address in the event that you move home.

THEN YOU ARE ALL SET 🙂 a life time of peace knowing that you have done everything you can to ensure they stay safe and get to return home even in the event they go missing 🐱

For a small fee of £25 overall including implanting and life time detail access ♥️why wouldn’t you get your pet microchipped ?

• did you know that ALL puppies must be microchipped prior to leaving the breeder.

• it is predicted that within the next year it will be law, that ALL cats will need to be microchipped by the time they are 5months old.

• 8 out of 10 “strays” that get taken to shelters are not microchipped which can end up with them being rehomed due to no way to contact the owners.
