Candice, Phineas, and Ferb visited us last week for their vaccines, and they made quite the adventure out of it! 🐱

All three were brave for their appointments and spent plenty of time exploring the clinic afterwards. Their favourite activity? Walking up and down the cat wall, showing off their climbing skills and curiosity. From top to bottom, they investigated every corner and had a fantastic time taking in the sights.

We love seeing our feline patients feeling confident and comfortable during their visits. Great job today, Candice, Phineas, and Ferb! 💙

🌟 Leia’s Weight Loss Success Story! 🌟

Meet Leia, a beautiful 5-year-old British Shorthair with a big personality! 🐾

Back in June 2024, Leia weighed 5.5kg, making her significantly overweight. Carrying excess weight can have a serious impact on a cat’s health, affecting energy levels and increasing the risk of conditions such as diabetes and arthritis.

Over the past few years, Leia’s family has worked hard with our team to manage her weight. Like any lifestyle change, there have been ups and downs along the way, but her and her paw-parents dedication has truly paid off.

🎉 We’re delighted to share that Leia has now maintained her target weight of 4.5kg for more than 3 months!

That’s an amazing 1kg weight loss, which represents an incredible 18% reduction in her body weight. Even more importantly, Leia is healthier, happier, and enjoying all the benefits that come with reaching and maintaining a healthy weight.

If we were told there was a simple, free way to be reunited with our pet more quickly, should they ever go missing, we doubt any pet owner would say, "No thanks!"

Well, what if there was a way and it wasn't a secret?

Microchipping is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your pet, but it only helps if the details are up to date.

- Moved house since it was implanted?
- Changed your phone number?
- Rehomed your pet and not updated the ownership details?

Life happens, and before you know it, you can't remember which microchip company your pet is registered with or where to even start!

The good news is, there are free Check a Chip websites. Just enter your pet's microchip number and be directed to the correct database, so you can check and update your details. Don't worry, they do not share any personal information.

Lost your microchip number altogether? Don't worry, this is a judgment-free zone. It happens more often than you might think! Just get in touch with our team. We may already have it on your pet's records. If not, you're welcome to pop in and we'll scan your pet free of charge and let you know their microchip number.

These adorable Pomeranian puppies recently visited us for their final puppy vaccinations! 📸✨

Winnie and Teddy are a beautiful brother-and-sister duo with plenty of charm, confidence, and personality!

🐶 Did you know? Pomeranians are known for being intelligent, lively, and affectionate companions. Despite their small size, they often have big, bold personalities and love being involved in family life. They are highly alert, eager to learn, and can make excellent little watchdogs, always keen to let their owners know when something is happening!

Completing their puppy vaccination course is an important milestone, helping to protect them against serious infectious diseases as they begin exploring the world around them.

We can't wait to watch these two grow and hear about all the adventures they have together! 🐾✨

🐾 Florence the Boxer 🐾

We were delighted to welcome Florence to the clinic today for her first course of puppy vaccinations. This milestone marks the beginning of her journey toward building a strong immune system, allowing her to safely explore the world as she grows. 💗

Florence’s owner is no stranger to the breed, having shared her home with Boxers for many years. It was wonderful to discuss how Florence is already living up to her heritage, showing off the signature "big personality" that Boxer enthusiasts know and love. 🐶

Have you heard or maybe even said to yourself as a dog owner;
“I know it’s hot, but we’re going to stay in the shade”

𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗻 that may help people better understand the dangers heat can pose to our pets.

𝗔𝗶𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲. The temperature shown on weather apps is already the shaded air temperature, not a “sun temperature”.

𝗔 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲. In reality, if it is 25°C on the forecast, that is already the air temperature in the shade.

𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗶𝗿. It mainly reduces direct sunlight and solar radiation, which is why it feels more comfortable than standing in full sun, but the surrounding air temperature stays the same.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲, 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀. In prolonged heat, there is often no truly safe outdoor temperature for long periods of time.

𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗵𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 because the body absorbs additional heat from solar radiation on top of the air temperature.

𝗖𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗼𝘁 because sunlight is trapped inside the vehicle, causing temperatures to rise quickly even in mild weather or with windows slightly open.

𝗦𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗰, 𝗽𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗵𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲. These surfaces can burn paw pads and add significant heat load for pets close to the ground.

𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘆𝗰𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀, 𝗲𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀, 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲.

𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗲. Shade reduces risk but does not remove it, especially in humidity or poor airflow.

🧊 Are ice cubes safe for dogs? 🧊

Yes. In moderation and in healthy dogs, ice cubes, bone broth ice lollies, frozen vegetables like carrots, all make a refreshing and safe snack for your dog, especially in this hot weather ☀️

⚠️ Never attempt to use ice cubes as a treatment, if you suspect heat stroke.

💦 GET THEM WET 👉🏻 GET THEM TO A VET 🩺

Soak your dog with as much COLD water as possible, but do not delay getting them to a vet as a result.

The colder the water, the better. Evidence has disproved the perceived risks of cold water causing shock, instead water that is not cold enough fails to reduce your dogs core temperature quickly enough.
