Every week, we see it.
The limping โjust a puppyโ whoโs been running laps with adult dogs at the park.
The โenergeticโ youngster whoโs been chasing balls on hard ground every day.
The โtraining earlyโ pup already doing agility drills before their bones have finished growing.
Hereโs the hard truth:
Growth plates are soft cartilage. They donโt close until around 12โ18 months, depending on breed.
Every jump, skid, or slide before then can twist, compress, or fracture developing joints, leaving lifelong damage that canโt be undone.
And yet, we keep hearing it.
โHeโs just a puppy.โ
Exactly. Thatโs why it matters.
Your puppyโs body is still under construction.
Exercise is important โ but it must be age-appropriate, varied, and low-impact.
Walks, exploration, gentle play. Not weekend marathons or high-speed fetch sessions.
Protect the growth plates now, and you protect the adult dog theyโll become.
