Today, we've celebrated 24 hours in the life of UK farming, from our veterinary perspective. Before the next early start, we just want to say:

Thank you for everything you do. Keep being you.

07/08/2025

And on we go.

We were here today, and we’ll be here tomorrow and every day after that. For the late-night checks, the early starts, the tough calls, and the wins. Hook Norton Vets are by your side.

If you're in doubt, call us. 🩺🐄🌾

Work Experience, Graduation and Beyond !

Learning never stops - especially in farming and Veterinary medicine. As the landscape of agriculture evolves, both parties work hard to stay at the forefront of their profession.

All of our vets complete a minimum of 35 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) each year to maintain their RCVS registration and deliver the best care possible. We tailor that CPD to areas of interest and the business goals, and we think it shows!

We're proud to support the next generation too, from work-experience students to final-year Vet students across many Universities. Interestingly, we are one of the University of Surrey's seven final-year placement providers, which means we host students for a minimum of four weeks as part of their IMR (Intra-Mural Rotation).

The Power of Collaboration . Farmers, Vets, nutritionists, foot trimmers, farm advisors, SQPs, and researchers, we're stronger together.

They say it takes a village when raising children, but there’s no doubt this extends to caring for livestock, too. We collaborate every day, whether that’s with various technicians following routine visits and sync protocols, working alongside a foot trimmer to manage lameness or conversations with drug reps to make sure we’re getting the best products for you. Not to mention those “whilst you’re here” moments to cast an eye over your farm dogs or kids' ponies: our other departments are always on hand.

From local discussion groups to national initiatives such as AHDB, Red Tractor, and National Health Matters, we collaborate across the board to improve welfare, productivity, and sustainability on farms.

Because better teamwork grows better farming. 🤝🌱

Proud to Be Independent

Hook Norton Vets is an independent practice with strong roots in the community. That means we work for you, not a corporation.

We pride ourselves on building long-standing relationships, often going back generations. We strive to provide the highest level of care, working flexibly and collaboratively alongside our clients.

We are more than just vets. We proudly support local causes, inspiring the next generation through talks at local schools, and providing knowledge transfer opportunities by hosting regular client meetings both at our Hook Norton surgery and on-farm.

Next time you are at a local equestrian event, village fete or agricultural show, make sure to come and say hello!

🤝 Personal, honest, expert care.

FarmSkills: Knowledge That Works
At HNVG we love a day out! Our FarmSkills courses are always a great chance to get together with farmers and dive into detail on a range of different topics. Each year, you will find us in the lambing sheds for our practical and advanced lambing courses or out on the dairy for our calving and calf rearing. Keep an eye on our newsletter to stay informed on upcoming dates!

FarmSkills courses combine practical, hands-on learning with essential theory to upskill farmers and farm staff in livestock management, welfare, and farm safety.

Our vets and our training courses are constantly updated to meet the latest standards set by UK governing bodies, supporting high animal health and welfare and helping to produce some of the best food in the world.

🧠🐄 Knowledge shared is knowledge multiplied.

🍃 Sustainability: Your Farm, Your Choice 🍃
Nobody cares about the environment quite like the British farmer, and it's safe to say they understand their land better than anyone! We are so proud of the variety of farms and systems that we get to work with- from the micro-dairies with calves at foot to the highly efficient extensive milking units; from the low-input grazing herds to the mob-grazed groups out on herbal leys. Sustainable farming looks different on every farm. We're here for them all, 24/7.

Our Story

The Hook Norton Veterinary Group farm team provide a complete veterinary service for all farm animals. We strive to deliver a friendly and professional service to ensure the very best for animal health and welfare – 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The farm department has grown over the last 30 years, and now consists of six dedicated farm-only vets and three TB testing vets. Each vet has their own areas of special interest and knowledge, and are all encouraged to push for prevention rather than cure.

Building close relationships with our clients is very important and will hopefully ensure we have a positive impact on the profitability and efficiency of their businesses.
