Persistence pays off πŸ˜€

After lots of patience and daily practice, our last cria is finally eating hard feed - and straight from our hands!
Seeing all five of them eating confidently is such a rewarding feeling. Now that we've mastered mealtimes, we've moved onto walking skills on the halter πŸ™ŒπŸ˜πŸ¦™

Pub walks and cria triumphs πŸ¦™βœ¨οΈ

We had a lovely sunny walk to The Otter Inn, Weston where the boys enjoyed some "paddock pints" ( AKA fresh grass snacks)

Meanwhile, "cria school" is officially in session. We're working on halter training and hit a maior milestone today: one of our hold - outs finally started eating hard feed πŸ‘. We are so proud of this little ones progress.✨️

A massive thank you to our wonderful volunteers, Andy & Nicki. From the long walks to the patient training sessions, we couldn't do this without you. 🧑

Sun's out and so are the Alpaca πŸŒžπŸ¦™

There's nothing quite like a walk in the sunshine 🌞 to lift everyone's spirits ✨️ After all the damp weather, you can tell how happy the boy's are to finally be dry and fluffy again.

They are walking beautifully on their halters.

We are making great progress with the babies - 3/5 cria are now hand - feeding!
We are still working on winning over the other two.

The girls look like they are finally drying out. Nothing like a little sunshine to turn soggy alpaca into fluffy clouds β˜οΈπŸ¦™πŸ¦™

Meet Pablo πŸˆβ€β¬›
With the help of The Cats Protection in Honiton, we rescued this beautiful boy πŸ₯°

Needing some help with pest control we thought a farm cat would be ideal. We needed a cat happy to live out on the farm. This little boy, for various reasons, fit our needs perfectly.

He's been with us for almost a year now. He has become a very important part of our family πŸ˜πŸˆβ€β¬›
Pablo is helping with rodents, but even more of a bonus he has formed a very close bond with our daughter Indi πŸ’•
I have also become a huge fan of Pablo, we love him to bits ❀️

Today was a pretty miserable day. Very misty/foggy and wet. We decided against a walk. Most people slow down in their cars for us, but you always get one that doesn't! With the mist, we thought better of it.
Andy thought we could try some halter training with the babies 😍
After some persuasion, we sent the mums out to the paddock. Got the babies into the shelter and tried on some halters. It's a slow steady process, with lots of encouragement 😁

It's been lovely having a few dry days. Meant we could get back out walking 😁

The highlight of our day today ✨️ baby Gary fed from hand for the first time ✨️ He does love his hard feed and will feed from the trough, but today Andy managed to get Gary to feed from his hand πŸ˜€
Clever boy Gary. Slowly building up trust πŸ™Œ

After a long break we started back walking, then stopped again! The weather has just been awful!

We made the decision to bring the girls home from their winter grazing today. The paddock had turned into a muddy mess. The girls walked happily home and have stayed in their shelter to dry out πŸ™Œ

We've also had quite a bit of flooding here, thankfully it's soaked away now πŸ™Œ
The boys didn't seem to mind, they thought The River Otter had come to them! 🀣
