Was delighted to see this pretty little fawn Whippet in her polo fleece from JRWR going into the SCCA show yesterday. It suited her so well and as it was quite unsettled weather all day, I’m certain it was a happy part of her show kit.

Attended the RRCGB show on Sunday for Soave to have a day out. Was delighted to find CJ with her dog wearing an older towelling coat, one I made almost 20 years ago! They are made to last but also made to be very versatile, so when the weather is a bit chilly, the dry toweling coat provides a light cover and keeps short coated dogs rather warm! 😊

Our Story

The first dog coat I made was for a friend's dog in 1981, then I made coats for my own dogs into the 90's, especially towelling coats. After buying some waxed winter coats I found that they could not be washed, thus making them good for one season only. Therefore my Clever Coat was conceived; the patent GB2388514 was granted in 2002.

Many ORIDGENALS ideas are born out of necessity and once I have seen the practicalities in my mind, I am able to transfer them into a design and then stitch the item. Although I started with Ridgebacks, other owners soon wanted coats for their dogs, from JR Terriers to Deerhounds! When our first Whippet joined us in 2004, more designs were added to the range so my motto has become "all needs for all breeds".

ORIDGENALS embroidery service began with a small machine in 2000, which was not coping with demand so I invested in a large brother PR600. Embroidery is not limited to dog items but the mobile contact collars are one of our best sellers; some feedback said “life saving” ! It’s a blessing to make a living out of what I have been gifted to do.
