❤️🐾 Thank You to Our Incredible Donor Dogs & Owners 🐾❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our recent Pet Blood Bank UK collection day on 16 May. Together, you helped collect 9 units of blood, which will go on to support pets in need of lifesaving treatment.

We’re always so grateful to the dogs and their owners who give their time to help others — it truly makes a difference to the patients we care for every day.

Thank you again to everyone who took part — we couldn’t do it without you. 💉🐶❤️

It’s always so rewarding to hear how patients are doing once they’re back home 🧡

Pepper joined us as an emergency earlier this year, and understandably his family were going through a very worrying time. From the moment he arrived, our team, and especially Julien, focused on making sure they felt supported, informed and reassured every step of the way.

His owner shared such kind words about their experience, highlighting not only the care Pepper received, but also the warmth and kindness of our reception team at every interaction.

We’re so pleased to hear that Pepper is now back to his normal self – eating well, gaining weight, and enjoying life again (even if he’s still missing a little bit of fluff! 😅).

Thank you for trusting us with his care, and for taking the time to share your experience.

Meet Lulu, a gorgeous 2‑year‑old Ragdoll, who came to us feeling very unwell after suddenly stopping eating and repeatedly vomiting.

When Lulu arrived, she was clearly poorly and needed urgent care. Blood tests showed her kidneys were really struggling. Specialist scans showed that she had an infection in both kidneys (called pyelonephritis), this infection was so bad in her right kidney that the tube that carries urine to the bladder (ureter) had become blocked with infected material. A sample taken directly from this right kidney confirmed the presence of bacteria and pus.

Lulu was started on antibiotics, fluids, pain relief and supportive care; initially she showed really encouraging improvements. She was brighter, more comfortable, and her kidney values began to improve. However, she would not eat any food, thus a temporary feeding tube was placed to give her the nutrition she needed to heal.

But recovery isn’t always a straight line.

Despite initial progress, Lulu developed repeated fevers and then suddenly started to show signs of sepsis. We suspected that her right kidney was the source of this sepsis. After careful discussions between the veterinary team and Lulu’s family, everyone agreed that her best chance of recovery was to surgically remove her right kidney.

The surgery went smoothly, and the difference afterwards was remarkable. Within 24 hours she was brighter, comfortable, and started to eat by herself. She went home just a few days later, happy and alert, with her remaining kidney doing a fantastic job on its own

We’re so proud of Lulu — and grateful to her family for trusting us with her care 💙

Kim has been part of the Davies team for 15 years, starting her journey as a rotating nurse working across all areas of the hospital. It was during this time that she discovered her passion for theatre, where she has now been Lead Theatre Nurse for the past 11 years.

She loves the variety the role brings—no two days are ever the same, and the team supports a wide range of interesting cases across multiple disciplines. For Kim, one of the most rewarding parts of her role is working alongside a specialist, multi-disciplinary team, all focused on providing the very best care and helping patients return home to their families.

Kim treats every patient as if they were her own. While much of her time is spent caring for anaesthetised patients in theatre, she also enjoys heading down to the wards for a few cuddles with those who are awake.

Outside of work, Kim enjoys spending time with her family and her much-loved Border Terrier, Wendy—who, in her eyes, is undoubtedly the best breed.

💙 A very special update to share 💙

After a serious back leg injury last August, Tilly the cat came to our Orthopaedic team for specialist care. After months of patience and recovery, her owners have recently let her back into the garden for the first time and it has been a joy to see her walking, running, jumping and playing again with no sign of any ongoing problems.
They asked us to pass on their heartfelt thanks to the whole team, and especially to Loïc, whose surgery meant Tilly’s leg could be saved. They also spoke warmly about the care, kindness and professionalism shown by everyone they met throughout Tilly’s treatment.

Seeing our patients return to doing the things they love is always incredibly rewarding, and we are so grateful to Tilly’s family for sharing such a lovely update. Well done to everyone involved in her care 🐾

As part of Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month, one of our nurses, Sam, recently visited a local primary school to share what it means to care for animals.

Through hands-on activities, from learning about the five welfare needs to practising bandaging, the session introduced pupils to the knowledge behind veterinary nursing.

But just as importantly it highlighted the compassion and empathy that underpin every aspect of patient care.

Inspiring the next generation to understand and value animal welfare is something we're proud to support.
