I wasn’t really planning a training session with Splodge but sometimes it’s nice to just see where you are at with your horse. No, this isn’t perfect but what is lovely is how Splodge wants to participate (he has lots of grass at the bottom of his field). All I have to offer is scratches but this is reinforcing enough for him to want to stick around and hang out with me 🥰

Do you have problems leading your horse from A to B? Does your horse seem to prefer the grass than walking with you? Is your horse distracted by other horses when being led? Benny demonstrates that with time and good training - calm, focused leading is possible! Happy horse and a very happy client 😃

On Sunday, I had the pleasure of loading Susie to bring her home from her retirement livery. Susie has had some confidence issues with loading and travelling. Asking her to leave her 3 companions whom she has been with for the past 2 years was also going to be a big ask.
Giving her time plus a few of her favourite treats, Susie walked onto the lorry within 10mins and travelled like a star ⭐️ 🐴

Ever wondered if you could train your horse to leave the grass when asked? Meet Duke - Duke LOVES grass, especially at this time of year when he needs his grazing monitored as he is a laminitic who also has EMS. In this video, I am training Duke to go to the grass when I give him the “grass” cue and then asking him to come back to me using his name as a cue for him to leave the grass. This is not a perfect demonstration BUT, look at how Duke actually needs more encouragement to graze than he does to come back to engage with me 🥰 This is not an easy behaviour to train but a very valuable one 😊
