The newest generation to bumblebee farm

It is with great sadness that on Sunday 26th February Leonard Alfred Smith passed away peacefully at home at the age of 95. He built a successful farming business for sons Iain and Alan and worked so hard throughout his life to give his sons a wonderful farm. He was also so instrumental in helping grandsons Jack and Tom settle in to farm life. Without him bumblebee farm would not have been the farm it is today. He will be sorely missed by us all and we find so much comfort knowing he is now at peace enjoying a cuppa with his late wife Mavis and all of his brothers and sisters and mother and father. Thankyou to a wonderful dad, father in law, grandad and great grandad and the backbone of bumblebee for 95 years.

Today is the start of cultivating ready for the spring crop of Maize to be sown in a couple of weeks time. The ground conditions are perfect for Sub soiling although it needs to warm up a tad before we can start planting the maize.

What’s the difference ?

On the left is a Holstein cow, they produce 4% fat milk which is a great every day milk. Holsteins are known as the worlds biggest production dairy animal.

On the right is a Jersey cow, they produce 6% fat milk which is great if you enjoy that creamier taste. Jersey cows are the second largest breed.
