🔥🐾 HEAT WAVE COMING THIS WEEKEND 🐶🐱
This heat is not just uncomfortable — it can be dangerous for our furry family members. Please don’t underestimate how quickly cats and dogs can overheat during a heat wave. Pavements burn paws, cars become ovens in minutes, and pets can suffer heatstroke faster than people realize.
Here are some simple ways to help keep them safe and cool:
❄️ Keep fresh, cool water available at all times
🏠 Keep pets indoors during the hottest hours (usually 11am–4pm)
🚫 Never leave pets in a parked car — not even “for a minute”
🐾 Check pavement temperature before walks (if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws)
🌳 Walk dogs early morning or late evening when it’s cooler
🧊 Offer cooling mats, damp towels, frozen treats, or ice cubes in water
✂️ Brush pets regularly to help airflow through their coat
😿 Watch for signs of heatstroke: heavy panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, confusion, or collapse
And remember — outdoor animals, strays, and wildlife need help too. Leaving a bowl of water outside can genuinely save a life. 💧
Please check on your pets, your neighbors’ pets, and spread the word before the temperatures rise this weekend. Stay safe everyone ❤️🐕🐈

May marks Veterinary Nursing Month! 💚
Behind every healthy pet and every successful surgery is a dedicated Veterinary Nurse 🩺 We’re celebrating the backbone of our clinic all month long! Veterinary nurses do much more than just cuddling puppies and kittens (although this is one of our favourite parts), they are an integral part of the working team, ensuring that everything can run smoothly on a daily basis. Monitoring anaesthesia, running diagnostic tests and providing in-patient care are just the tip of the iceberg. As well as supporting you as clients. ❤️✨

🐰 Protect Your Rabbits from the Silent Killer 🐰

Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHD) is a highly contagious and often fatal virus that can claim a rabbit’s life within just days. Sadly, outbreaks are continuing to affect both wild and pet rabbits across the country.
The good news? Vaccination offers strong protection and is the best way to help keep your rabbits safe. With improved vaccine availability and affordability, there’s never been a better time to vaccinate your furry companions.
Even indoor rabbits can be at risk, as the virus can be carried on clothing, shoes, hay, insects, and other surfaces. Alongside vaccination, good hygiene and biosecurity remain very important.
🐇 Prevention is always better than cure — help protect our local rabbit population through proactive vaccination and owner awareness.

We are aware of the posts circulating regarding a dog that very sadly died after visiting a tulip festival.

We want to make it very clear that, despite what is circulating in the press and on social media, this dog did not die as a result of tulip poisoning.

As the UK’s only animal poison centre in the UK, we have managed over 1600 cases regarding tulips. Based on this evidence and our research, we can reassure the public that the clinical signs described in this case are not consistent with tulip toxicity. While tulips may cause gastrointestinal upset if ingested, severe cases are very uncommon. Other potential causes should be considered in this case.

If you’re concerned your pet may have been exposed to something harmful, please call Animal PoisonLine on 01202 509000. Veterinary professionals can call the VPIS on 020 7305 5055.
