Rome is one of those cities that rewards you for slowing down 🇮🇹

Yes, there are the famous landmarks, the history, the incredible food - but some of the bst parts of Rome happen in between all of that. A quiet side street in the morning, a tiny café you accidentally discover, an evening walk when the city finally starts to cool down.

That’s what makes housesitting in Rome feel so different to a typical trip. You’re not trying to squeeze everything into a few rushed days - you have time to settle in, build a routine, and experience the city more naturally.

One neighbourhood might feel lively and chaotic, another calm and local. Some mornings start with coffee in a piazza, others with a walk to a nearby market before the streets get busy.

Rome has a way of pulling you into its rhythm if you let it.

And honestly, that’s when it feels most special.

Save this for later if Italy is on your list ✨

Six months in southern Spain, living in a characterful Finca that's got its own bar, restaurant and mini golf in the grounds. This one's special.

📅 2 January to 14 July

The home sits in Manilva's river valley, tucked between Marbella and Gibraltar near the old Roman Baths. Think courtyard rooms, a roof terrace with sun beds, a little plunge pool and proper Starlink wifi if you need to work while you're out there. It's private and secure, a few km up a country road, so you'll want a car.

Plenty to love on the pet front too. Thor the St Bernard and Tina, a year-old Malinois with energy to burn. Obi the Maine C**n. And two proper characters in George, a 40-year-old Triton cockatoo, and Maverick the blue-and-gold macaw. Five goldfish in the pond to round it off.

It's more pet sit than house sit, so it suits a couple who genuinely love animals and fancy trying life on the Costa del Sol. Past sitters keep going back.

Apparently nearly two-thirds of UK pet owners now celebrate their pets’ birthdays in some way, which honestly explains a lot. 🎂🐾

Because once you’ve bought them a birthday treat “as a joke”, it’s a very slippery slope towards presents, special dinners and singing Happy Birthday while they stare at you in complete confusion.

Some pets get a new toy.

Some get a cake.

Some somehow end up with a full photoshoot and better birthday plans than most humans.

We’re not here to judge either way, but we *are* curious where everyone stands on this very important issue.

Do you celebrate your pet’s birthday or not? 👀

📅 1–5 July 2026 (dates flexible)

Five summer days in a Somerset barn conversion, sunsets over the garden, two daft dogs to keep you company. Not a bad way to spend July. ☀️

The town is Bruton, which is a bit of a gem if you've not been. Art galleries, independent shops, a couple of Michelin-starred restaurants, and The Newt gardens are five minutes away. Castle Cary, Wells, Sherborne and Glastonbury are all an easy hop, and the trains run straight to Bath, Bristol and the coast if you want a proper day out.

The house is a light single-storey barn conversion, snug to hole up in, summer house in the garden, fast Wi-Fi if you need to get some work done. Walks start at the front gate.

Murphy, the 15-year-old Westie, is full of character and knows exactly what he wants, usually to be outside. Seve, the red Lab, is soft as anything and just wants the fuss. He's easier around calm company than a houseful of other dogs, so bear that in mind.

Short stay, lovely spot. Flick through the carousel, listing's below if it's calling you.

Right, we need to settle a debate in the HouseSit Match office.

What is the BEST colour Labrador? 👀🐾

Black Labs have that classic “good dog energy” and somehow always look ridiculously photogenic. Yellow Labs seem to have endless enthusiasm for life (and mud). Chocolate Labs? Usually the ones causing chaos but somehow getting away with it because they’re adorable.

Apparently everyone has a theory. Some people swear black Labs are the calmest and smartest, others say yellow Labs are the happiest family dogs, while chocolate Labs have a reputation for being the lovable troublemakers of the group.

Although, scientifically speaking, most experts agree coat colour doesn’t really determine temperament - every Lab is basically its own personality anyway. But that won’t stop us enjoying a healthy debate!

All we know is this black Lab in the photo is making a very strong case for Team Black.

So what are you choosing? 👇

A quiet Surrey village, a comfortable home, and a tabby cat called Burrito waiting to be looked after.

This housesit in Windlesham, Surrey is a lovely option for anyone who enjoys calm surroundings, village life, and the easy rhythm of caring for a cat.

For just over two weeks, you’ll be based in a peaceful residential community with a back garden, Wi-Fi, streaming services, off-road parking and everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Windlesham itself gives you that slower village feel, with local pubs and a small shop within walking distance. And if you fancy a city day, Sunningdale station is only a short drive away, with trains into London Waterloo taking around 50 minutes.

Your main role is keeping Burrito, a 7-year-old tabby, happy and cared for while the owner is away.

A good cat sit is often about simple things: keeping routines steady, making sure the home feels settled, and accepting that, for two weeks, Burrito is probably in charge.

If you’re looking for a peaceful UK housesit with feline company and easy access to both Surrey countryside and London, this one is well worth a look.

Take a look through the carousel and apply through the full listing.

Hot tub. Character home. Market town. Boxer cuddles.

This fantastic housesit in Hitchin, Hertfordshire combines all four. 🏡✨

Set on the outskirts of one of England’s most popular historic market towns, you’ll be staying in a beautiful detached home designed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Whether you’re unwinding in the hot tub after a day exploring, enjoying the peaceful surroundings, or spending time in Hitchin’s independent cafés, restaurants and shops, this is the kind of sit that feels like a proper getaway.

And then there’s Thelma. 🐾

Thelma is a 5-year-old Boxer with a huge personality and an even bigger love of people. She’s playful, affectionate, and happiest when she’s spending time with her humans. A self-confessed “velcro dog”, she enjoys cuddles almost as much as she enjoys playtime.

This sit would suit a confident dog lover who has experience with larger breeds and enjoys being around an energetic dog with plenty of character. In return, you’ll have a loyal companion, plenty of laughs, and a dog who will quickly become the highlight of your stay.

With countryside nearby, the charming town of Hitchin on your doorstep, and a lovely home to return to each day, this is a wonderful opportunity to experience a different side of England while caring for a truly special dog.

Take a look through the carousel to see more of the home, the location and of course, Thelma. If this sounds like your kind of housesit, we’d love to see your application. 🏡

Not every travel moment needs a view or a plan.

Sometimes it’s just a cup of tea, a quiet room and a pause in the day that feels entirely your own. That’s something people don’t always expect from housesitting - how quickly a space that isn’t yours can start to feel familiar. Feel like a home from home.

There’s a comfort in settling into someone else’s place. You learn where everything is, you find your spot to sit, you fall into small routines without even realising. It might be a countryside cottage with soft lighting and blankets, or a city flat where the world carries on just outside the window.

Either way, those slower moments have a way of grounding the whole experience. They remind you that this is about living in those places, even briefly, as much as it is about the travelling.
And sometimes, that’s exactly what you need.
