💕

My thoughts are with anyone who is missing a beloved pet today. It’s such a horrible feeling to be missing them everyday, even more so while everyone else appears to be celebrating.

Be kind to each other and I hope you all have a peaceful moment of reflection.

Whether you celebrate Christmas or not if you are struggling with pet loss at anytime there is support available. Please get in touch if I can help.

There is also the private group if you wish to add anything there for support from others who have experienced pet loss too 🩶

🎄 While everyone is busy rushing around, seeing family, celebrating…

🩶 If you have lost a beloved pet this can be such a difficult time.

💔 If it’s a recent pet loss, your time appears to stand still as everyone else moves around you.

🥺 If the loss was this year the thought of entering the next without them is so hard.

😔 Even if the pet loss was neither of those the family celebration around Christmas makes grief feel louder than previous and emotional for most regardless of when the loss happened.

Please know there is support available if you are struggling with your own pet loss. If you know someone else please check in on them. Pets really are the most treasured companions and their loss is felt profoundly by those who love them 🩶

What do you get in terms of support when you contact me ❓

I have been giving people who contacted me via telephone and video calls, on going support via messages and email.

The hours session has been broken into two for someone who found themselves extremely tired half way through.

Some people have needed same day calls/ videos, others wished to book in the future.

I am very accommodating to whatever you feel you made need. I can provide flexible sessions to adapt your needs. It can be so difficult to ask for help and I am aware we all have different needs.

Please if you have any questions or specific ideas of your needs I will try to help as best as I can 🩶

When am I available/ what are my working hours❓

I set aside time each day I can be flexible for anyone who needs any bereavement support. I can and have been available the very same day for people. I am a dog walker/ cat sitter and I love this but I also miss helping people.

I am able to use time in the afternoons/ evenings and weekends around other commitments. There are no set Monday to Friday times for my pet bereavement support.

When people reach out to me for support I ask whether they need to speak to me that day. I don’t need to know the details of the loss at this time. It’s based on how you are feeling. I offer that day or give other times or days I can be available.

Most people contact when they need the help the most. I am so lucky to be able to offer same day appointments.

Please get in touch if I can help 🩶

❓ The right time to get another pet ❓

This is a topic that comes up a lot (mostly to do with getting another dog after loosing a dog but could be any companion animal, I will use a dog in this example).

There is no right or wrong! Everyone is different. Even the same person at a different time of life may answer differently.

🩶 Do you live alone or are there others in the home/ family who feel differently to you?

🩶 Are there any other animals at home?

🩶 Are you ready for new commitment and a whole new routine?

🩶 Was the dog that has died a therapy or service dog?

🩶 Are you able to emotionally build a new relationship?

🩶 Do you wish an older or younger dog?

🩶 Are you wanting to rescue a dog?

A new puppy for instance can be hard work and tiring. A rescue may need more patience whilst they adjust to their new home. Both require hard work and commitment. The other family members or pets may bond at a different level or timeframe.

A new pet also could bring lots of joy. A new relationship will develop. A young happy puppy or a rescue dog who has settled well can be very rewarding. You will know if you feel ready. I say listen to your gut feeling.

It’s definitely not too disrespectful to the dog that has died to get another. Some people can’t be without the love and reward a dog, in this instance, can give. But if you don’t feel ready (gut feeling) I think it’s probably worth waiting a little longer to see how you feel in a couple of months. Ultimately you don’t want to give a rescue dog back or rehome a puppy if you can’t bond or it’s not working for any reason. That’s not fair on yourself or the dog.

What about going seeing another dog? Walk a friends dog, visit the local park and see the others? What about choosing a different animal to spend time with? A friends cat? A horse at the local stables? Volunteer at a local shelter to help care for animals?

Talk things through with friends and family. Get in touch with a pet bereavement specialist. Ask yourself lots of questions and go with what feels right for you at the time.

Be kind on yourself there is no one way to do anything 🩶
