Dear Hammond Vets Clients,
As you will be aware the veterinary field has undergone much change in the last decade with
the rise of corporates and a decline in vets. Sadly, I am writing to you all to inform you that
the practice will be closing as of the 1st Sept. We are no longer able to maintain our position
within the industry as a mixed veterinary practice. I hope that you will understand that this
decision has not been taken lightly or without consideration and exhaustion of all other
viable options.
I wanted to thank all of you for your support and loyalty to the practice. It has been our
pleasure to be your veterinary practice and provide a team that you could rely on. We have
always done this in good faith to help serve your veterinary needs to the best of our ability as
an independent small business.
Please find below an alphabetical list of practices and their area of practice that you may
wish to enquire to register at. We will be happy to provide any clinical information at your
request to your new practice of choice. I wish you all the very best for the future.
Best Wishes,
Dr Lauran Hammond

FLYSTRIKE ALERT!

Just a friendly reminder to check your animals. Flystrike is a serious concern for farmers, and it's essential to be vigilant. We have had several cases where chemical treatments have worn off.

Key Points to Watch For:

Signs of Flystrike: Look for signs such as unusual restlessness, agitation, or rubbing against objects. Check for maggots in fleece or areas with faecal contamination or fleece wetting.

Risk Factors: Flystrike risk increases in warm, humid conditions. Poor fleece condition, soiled wool, and wounds or injuries make animals more susceptible.

Preventive Measures:

Maintain Hygiene: Regularly clean animal pens and ensure animals are kept in dry, clean conditions.

Fleece Management: Consider regular shearing or crutching to reduce fleece contamination.

Chemical Treatments: Use appropriate fly-repellent or insecticide treatments as recommended by your vet.

Monitoring and Action: Regularly inspect your animals, especially during warmer months. Immediate treatment with appropriate insecticides and veterinary care is crucial if you suspect flystrike.

By staying vigilant and proactive, you can minimize the risk of flystrike and keep your flock healthy. For further guidance or to develop a tailored prevention strategy, consult with your veterinarian.
