Are you planning a holiday? Maybe you're off for a well deserved break very soon?🔆😎

Whatever you're planning, before you leave please let us know who is able to authorise and consent to veterinary treatment for your livestock or equine whilst you're away. We very much hope that it won't be needed, but having this information is a great help and minimises any delay.

Safe travels! 🙂

Recently, Will was part of the SRUC panel at the NBA Beef Expo in Melton Mowbray. He talked about BVD requirements and utilising health planning.

What a fantastic time at the NBA Beef Expo in Melton Mowbray last week! 🐄

We were delighted to host the SRUC Bovine Health Hub, including a series of topical panel sessions—thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such insightful and engaging discussions. It was great to highlight the work of the Premium Cattle Health Scheme (PCHS) and connect with so many passionate voices across the industry.

A big thank you as well to all the PCHS members, industry stakeholders and colleagues who stopped by to chat—we truly value those conversations and the opportunity to hear your thoughts.

If you missed our panel sessions, don’t worry—keep your eyes peeled for more information coming soon!

Meet our social media equine case of the month!🐴

Rose’s owners came to us at the end of march keen to put her in foal for her third time.

Last year with a foal at foot we struggled to get her in foal however this year she took on the first attempt.

We performed three pre breeding scans to monitor follicle size and ordered her semen with 48hrs notice on a 37mm follicle. We induced her the following day and the semen arrived the next morning.

After inseminating we check the semen under microscope to test its motility and following this we scanned her at 14 days to see a conceptus.

We were suspicious of a cyst which we hadn’t seen before and might have been a twin, however at 16 days it hadn’t grown but her pregnancy had!

At 28days we scanned for a heartbeat as you can see by the last image. ❤️

🪰 ⚠️ Blowfly Strike Alert ⚠️ 🪰

Although it still feels breezy and shearing feels a little way off for many, our farm vets and clients have already been seeing cases of FLYSTRIKE in flocks.

Act now before it is too late!
- Apply prevention to lambs and shorn sheep
- Remain super vigilant, especially if sheep can’t yet have preventative applied as shearing is less than 8 weeks away
- Dag dirty sheep and treat lameness promptly
- Minimise risk of scouring with regular, proactive FECs

Want to discuss your flock’s fly management plan? Give our office a call and one of the farm team will be happy to advise.
