Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue

Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue Animal Rescue Hi, welcome to Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue. We are a small independent organisation dedicated to helping dogs in need.
(2)

Each year, in Herefordshire alone there are around 350 dogs who find their way into the stray pound. Some go back home, sadly many are never reclaimed by their owners. These are the dogs we take care of, we provide them with shelter, either in our kennels or in a foster home, they receive any veterinary treatment they may need and they stay with us until a new home is found for them. We are also h

ere to help should circumstances arise that means you are unable to keep your dog. If you are having difficulties please give us a call, we will do our very best to help you find a new home for your pet. Herefordshire Council Animal activity license number: N-ANB59
License holders: Mrs Dawn Turner & Ms Penny Cook

Joey
Cocker Spaniel
11 months old

Oh gorgeous boy 💙

Joey is quite possibly the happiest, friendliest and most sociable young lad on the planet which is incredible considering he’s already worked his way through 4 homes in his very short life.
This isn’t Joey’s fault, he’s just being an 11 month spaniel that had no freedom in his first crucial months of life, unfortunately each of his previous owners didn’t have the experience, knowledge or space to help Joey become the wonderful boy he is destined to become.
Joey is a typical cocker spaniel and displays all the usual loveable traits, he’s loving, loyal, energetic and can sniff out a treat at 100 yards.
However, he has the attention span of a gnat, unless of course, FOOD is involved! Joey is very treat driven which is proving to be wonderfully helpful with his training, he is very quick to learn and picks things up very quickly.
Joeys last owner has done very well with him and this shows in his fabulous character, he also knows all his basic training and commands. He requires continued work on understanding his boundaries I.e not jumping up at people when excited, but of course, this needs calm people who will also ignore the negative behaviour and reward the good.

Joey LOVES other dogs but can be a little too excitable at times, we feel he would benefit from a home with at least 1 other tolerant dog who can help show him the ropes.

It goes without saying that an active home with spaniel experience will be absolutely essential.
Having lived with children in his early life, we feel that he would be best suited to a family with teenagers +.

All in all, Joey is a spaniel lovers dream, mostly there but just needs polishing around the edges!
He’s set to be the bestest boy provided he finds himself the right family who can bring out the best in him and give him the life he needs and deserves.

*In our experience, Joey doesn’t have the confidence and drive required to become a working/sniffer dog.

If you think YOU could be the family for this gorgeous little lad we would love to hear from you, please give us a call directly on 01568 760033.

THANK YOU to all who continue to choose us as their VIP Charity whilst shopping at Pets at Home.

Not only do you get some great offers for your own purchases but you are also helping us here at HWAR. We receive quarterly vouchers for us to use at Pets at Home which are such a massive help for us to continue providing our dogs with everything they need.
Our last voucher that we received in April was for an incredible amount of £736.00!

Here are a few snaps of some of the fantastic purchases we’ve made, including many puppy supplies for the orphaned litter of pups.

Thank you Pets Foundation Hereford Pets At Home and Groom Room and you all for making these vouchers possible and for your continued support. 🐶🐾

We LOVE group walkies 😍❤️

This is an important bonding process for our kennel dogs, where possible, to ensure our kennel environments remain calm and harmonious.

These three beautiful ladies were very good together on their walk.

A little information below about each of them😍

We still can’t believe we are writing this but we have the saddest news to announce - the unexpected passing of our longest resident Rupert.

Rupert faced many challenges over the years, he arrived with HWAR back in January 2021 at 3 years old, he had been abandoned in Herefordshire so found his way into our care.
We quickly realised there was an issue with his eyes, after this being confirmed by our vets he was referred to an eye specialist where it became apparent that he had cataracts to both eyes, due to the risk of complications it was established that surgery wouldn’t be possible.
Over the past 5 years within our rescue Rupert had gradually lost most of his vision yet HWAR and the humans he loved and trusted remained his safe space.

Last Sunday Rupert unexpectedly suffered an awful seizure, shortly after the arrival of our vets team, he endured another seizure, a distressing experience for us all.

Due to Rupert’s insecurities around strangers and in new environments, we know he would never cope with being handled for tests, we would never want him to suffer or experience further seizures so we had no option but to let our boy run free.
Rupert was surrounded by his loving HWAR family as he fell asleep for the final time.

Words can’t describe the hole that has been left behind, Rupert wasn’t just a big dog, he had a huge personality and daily life at HWAR revolved around him and his routine.
Our beautiful boy will be forever missed. 💙

We are sure Murphy was waiting for Rupert at the end of the bridge. We hope they are now sunbathing, enjoying lots of belly rubs and cheeseburgers together, whilst looking down on us with the happiest and fondest of memories 🌈🐾

‼️ Rehoming pets on selling sites ‼️

Poor 10 year old Tilly is just one of the few recent victims of online adverts that have found themselves in our care, this time as a result of being rehomed via a Facebook advert and unfortunately for Tilly, just 1 week after being rehomed she ended up being injured, covered in blood caused by nasty puncture wounds, injuries suspected to be caused by being attacked by another larger dog, she was then left at a local vets as she had apparently been found in that condition.

Heartbreakingly, no one has come forward to claim Tilly or take any responsibility for her but information we have been given leads us to believe the last known owner of just 1 week follows our page, so if you’re reading this then you can expect a visit from the local authorities…

Poor Tilly has had a very traumatic time, she sustained injuries to her throat, neck, shoulders and back leg. Although her bruises have gone and wounds are healing she has been left with worrying breathing issues and a nasty cough, most likely connected to the injuries caused to her throat.

Tilly has had multiple trips to the vets to monitor her condition, including x rays of her chest. She is still resting and will hopefully slowly recover in the comfort of her foster home, surrounded by lots of love.
*We will not be looking for a home for Tilly until she is ready, no enquiries will be taken at this time.

PLEASE think before rehoming or buying pets via selling sites or in general.
If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is, unfortunately people tell you all the right things and exactly what you want to hear, but it doesn’t mean that they are telling the truth, not everyone is as genuine as they seem!

We’ll be there, will you? 🤩We can’t wait to meet you all and your lovely pooches..🐶🐕
