Self-care is so important - we lavish love and care on our dog and we need to make sure we take time out to look after ourselves too. This calendula salve is the perfect way to do this. It can be used on chapped lips and cracked paws and will work wonders!

Calendula has anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory properties so it is an all-round super plant. It is a wonderful skin repair herb as it speeds up the healing of cuts, burns and abrasions.

How To Make A Calendula Healing Salve
First we need we make an infused oil:
• Sterilize a glass jar and make sure it is bone dry.
• Put in dried calendula petals to just over halfway. Add sunflower oil and leave an inch at the top to allow to breathe.
• Put on the lid and shake well.
• Leave to marinade for a few weeks. Shake well a few times a week while this is taking place.
• Decant using a fine sieve and muslin a few times until it is as clear as possible.
• Label and store in a cool, dark place and use as required. Use within 3 months.
• Put 25ml of the infused oil and 2.5 grams of beeswax into a bain-marie and mix together slowly. and heat the mixture until the wax has melted but do not bring to the boil.
• Remove it from the heat and allow to slightly cool before pouring into a jar.
• Allow to cool and set completely before putting on the lid.
• Label and date the jar and store in a cool, dry place. Use within 3 months.

The infused oil is full of goodness and can be used in home-made dog treat recipes too!
