Don't normally do this but it's that time of year and I've seen people sharing a nicked version of this so... first off the new scanner, the colour it should have been...... Hot Fido.

I know lots of folk can manage to be out with their dogs on hot days, walking in shady places, taking lots of breaks, air con on in the car.... but sadly all too often people don't know how to manage, don't know what to look for and put their poor dogs at risk.

As ever, I love the shares and its what facebook is all about, share direct from the page to your hearts content rather than nicking it and uploading to your own page. This is my living, so that isn't cool.

How Mouse is beating the heat ☀️🐾

Early morning shady stroll before the world gets too spicy…
Home before it gets hot…
Straight into nap mode…
Break for doggy ice cream…
A serious yak bar chewing session…
Then back to sleep. Preferably with chin resting on a human slave for maximum comfort.

Honestly? Mouse has summer figured out better than the rest of us 😌🍦

Some dogs come into your life fluffy, well socialised and ready to roll (Nanook)
Some arrive like a tiny feral goblin with trust issues, selective hearing and a suspicious relationship with my cats (Mouse). 😂

Every single one of mine has been a rescue in one way or another and honestly, I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Rescue dogs teach you patience, resilience, humour, and how quickly you can fall in love with a creature that once chewed through a live extension lead, ate a whole loaf of bread and snatched a bacon sandwich from my mums hands (Jasper 🤣).

They don’t need perfect people.
They need safe people.
People willing to see the dog underneath the chaos, fear, over-arousal or “slightly unhinged” behaviour.

And watching a rescue dog finally exhale and realise they’re home? Best feeling there is.

Daisy & Maple’s 121 today 🐾✨

These two golden girls are basically local celebrities at this point-every walk involved someone wanting to come over and say hello 😂

Today we worked on:
• Treat bombing when people walk past to help build calm, positive associations
• Being a bit more assertive with members of the public and advocating for the dogs instead of allowing constant greetings

As lovely as attention from strangers seems, too much interaction on walks can create dogs that expect access to everyone they see. This can lead to frustration, pulling, over-excitement and dogs becoming hyper-fixated on people instead of focusing on their handler 👀

We also started:
🐶 “Mat” = get on your bed/mat
🐶 “Break” = you’re free to come off

The aim is to build a really solid settle skill they can use anywhere-cafés, pubs, visiting family or just surviving life with two adolescent retrievers without losing your sanity 😅

And finally we introduced my 1-2-3 attention game to help build engagement and make checking in with their humans WAY more rewarding than staring at every passing person.

Such lovely girls and both worked super hard today 💛

Practically Perfect Puppy Programme complete 🎓🐾

8 weeks with this lovely bunch-and quite a few of them already well into adolescence by the time class started (hence the suspiciously horse-sized “puppies” 👀😂).

Huge congratulations to Bella, Frank, Basil and Doodles for graduating tonight! 🌟

Sadly other Basil and Holly couldn’t make the final class, but they absolutely deserve a mention too ❤️

We’ve covered everything from lead walking and recalls to settling, confidence building, surviving adolescence without losing your mind, and teaching owners that enrichment is sometimes just hiding food in cardboard instead of buying your dog another £47 puzzle toy 😅

So proud of all the progress these dogs and owners have made 🫶

And the chaos continues… a brand new set of Practically Perfect Puppy Programme classes starts this weekend on 23rd May 🐶✨
Drop me a message if you want to come and play 😁
