As both a dog owner and dog walker I honestly can’t stress enough how dangerous temperatures like today can be for dogs 🥵

At 31°c, even dogs who normally love long walks can struggle far quicker than people realise. Heatstroke can happen incredibly fast - especially after walks on warm pavements, high humidity or too much running around in the heat. Even swimming in temperatures like this can still be risky, as dogs can easily overexert themselves and still overheat. 🐾

This morning and yesterday’s groups went out super early with lots of shade, plenty of water access and mostly just half an hour of paddling, sniffing and relaxing by the river 💦

On very hot days, safer alternatives can include:
🐾 Early morning or late evening outings
🐾 River paddles & shaded sniff walks
🐾 Frozen enrichment at home
🐾 Short toilet breaks only
🐾 Indoor games, training & rest

One thing I always remind owners is that dogs do not need a full walk every single day, especially in temperatures like this. Missing one walk will never harm your dog, but heatstroke absolutely can.

Please don’t feel guilty for slowing things down during a heatwave - keeping them safe is always the priority and most dogs are far happier staying cool than pushing through the heat 🤍

🚨PLEASE READ🚨

It’s looking to get very hot next week, so this is just a reminder for anyone who’s new ☀️

Once temperatures reach around 23° I begin closely assessing whether walks are suitable. Though I never work off temperature alone and also factor in:

• Humidity
• Wind & cloud cover
• Shade/water access
• The type of walk planned
• How each individual dog copes in the heat

Over the last 5 years I’ve safely managed every heatwave by adapting where needed. This can include:

• Starting group walks & midday solos earlier
• Choosing cooler shaded areas & river walks
• Shortening walks if needed
• Swapping to pop-ins/visits where appropriate

If I ever feel conditions are unsafe, walks may be adapted and owners will always be informed. Please also remember my 24 hour cancellation policy still applies - if you are home and no longer want the alternative care/pop-in, please give me at least 24 hours notice. 🐾

After what feels like forever, my van is finally fixed and getting collected this afternoon 🥳🚐

I honestly can’t thank all of my regular clients enough again for being so patient, understanding and flexible over the past few weeks while I worked around everything. It really does mean so much to me 🤍

I’ll be messaging all of my usual clients that are already on the books today regarding bookings for tomorrow, Friday and next week so I can start getting everyone back to normal as much as possible 😊

For anyone who was waiting to arrange meets and greets/trial walks and would still like one, please feel free to drop me another message and I’ll get back to everyone on Sunday to arrange them for next week 🐾🤍

🚨NEWBIE ALERT - DEXTER 🚨

Everyone welcome Dexter the dachshund to the gang 🥹

He has been joining me for some solo walks recently while we build up his confidence and he’s been an absolute star so far 🐾

I’m sure he’ll absolutely love the group walks and making some new friends once the van is back on the road 🖤

My van is unfortunately still off the road at the moment, so I’m still a little limited with walks while I continue working around things. It’s been a massive inconvenience for me just as much as it may have been for some of my clients so I honestly can’t thank everyone enough for being so understanding, patient and flexible while I get everything sorted 🤍

For anyone I haven’t currently been able to offer group walks to - if you ever need me for a particular day please just message me and I’ll always do my best to squeeze in a solo walk or pop-in visit where I can.

And to those currently waiting to join the gang too, thank you so much for bearing with me. I truly appreciate all the support and patience more than you know 🐾🤍 x
