Fresh hay and water are everyday essentials, but they deserve extra attention during warmer weather.

Remember to:
🌾 Keep unlimited fresh hay available
💧 Refresh drinking water regularly
🥣 Offer a clean, heavy water bowl where suitable
🌳 Keep hay and water inside a shaded area
👀 Check that every bonded rabbit is eating and drinking
🧹 Remove damp or spoiled hay promptly

A rabbit that suddenly stops eating, produces far fewer droppings or seems unusually quiet needs prompt veterinary advice.

🐰💙 BINKY, FLOP OR LOAF?

Rabbits might be quiet, but they’ve got plenty to say if you know what you’re looking for. 👀

A binky — that brilliant jump, twist or kick in the air — is commonly seen when a rabbit is excited and feeling good. A dramatic flop onto their side can look alarming the first time you see it, but relaxed rabbits often do it when they feel comfortable enough to properly switch off. And then there’s the classic loaf, paws tucked underneath and everything neatly folded away. 🥹🐰

The important bit is getting to know what’s normal for your rabbits. Their posture is only one part of the picture, so appetite, droppings, movement and usual behaviour matter too. If something suddenly changes or you’re concerned about their health, speak to a rabbit-savvy vet.

🐰🌿 TUESDAY ENRICHMENT SWAP

Rabbit enrichment doesn’t have to mean buying something new every week.

Sometimes simply moving, rotating or bringing an old favourite back out makes their space interesting again. 💙

Try swapping a few things around today:

📦 Add a clean cardboard box with extra doorways cut into it
🌿 Bring back a willow toy they haven’t had for a while
🌾 Hide small handfuls of hay around their area to encourage natural foraging
🐰 Move a tunnel or hide into a different position
🧻 Stuff plain cardboard tubes with hay for something simple to investigate and chew

You don’t need to fill the room with toys all at once either. Rotating a smaller selection can keep familiar enrichment feeling interesting while still leaving plenty of open space for running, stretching and relaxing.

🐰💨 BUNNY ZOOMIES!

One minute they’re sitting perfectly still…

The next they’re racing around the room, twisting in mid-air and launching into a full-speed binky. 😂

Zoomies and binkies are often signs that a rabbit is feeling happy, excited and comfortable in their space. Some buns do dramatic leaps, while others prefer rapid laps followed by an exhausted flop. 💕

🐰💧 SUNDAY WATER CHECK!

It’s one of the simplest parts of rabbit care, but one of the most important: rabbits should have constant access to fresh, clean drinking water. The RSPCA recommends cleaning water containers every day and changing the water regularly; many rabbits also prefer drinking naturally from a heavy ceramic bowl.

Today’s quick bunny job:

💧 Empty and rinse the bowl

🧼 Give it a proper clean

🚰 Refill with fresh water

🐰 Make sure both rabbits can access it comfortably

🔎 If you use a bottle too, check that the spout is flowing freely

It only takes a minute — and while you’re there, it’s a good opportunity to notice whether they appear to be drinking, eating and behaving normally.

🐰💙 DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR BUNNY IS TELLING YOU?

One of the best parts of living with rabbits is learning all their little behaviours.

A binky is that brilliant jump-and-twist in mid-air — and it’s commonly associated with a happy rabbit. Relaxed rabbits may also lie stretched right out, tuck their legs underneath themselves or completely flop down when they’re feeling comfortable.

The more familiar you become with what’s normal for your rabbits, the easier it is to notice when their behaviour or posture seems different. If you’re concerned by an unusual change, speak to your vet.

🐰🧹 TODAY’S BUNNY CARE CHECK: RESET THE LITTER TRAY

Rabbit litter trays work hard, so today’s little job is giving yours a proper refresh.
Remove the soiled material, clean and dry the tray, then refill it with a rabbit-safe, non-clumping litter. Paper-based litter can be a good absorbent option; the Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund advises against sawdust and clay-based clumping cat litter for rabbits.

🌾 Then add plenty of fresh hay in or immediately beside the tray.

That might sound like an odd combination to us, but rabbits naturally like to eat while using their toilet area, and providing hay there can encourage both good litter habits and plenty of grazing. Hay placed in the litter tray should be refreshed at least daily.

A good litter setup should be:

🐇 Easy for your rabbits to get into and out of
🧹 Regularly cleaned
🌾 Close to plenty of fresh hay
💨 In a well-ventilated area
🚫 Free from clumping litter and dusty sawdust

And remember — unlimited good-quality hay should always be available elsewhere in their environment too.

Simple little changes to their setup can make everyday rabbit care easier for both buns and humans. 💙🐰

🐰🌿 TODAY’S BUNNY ENRICHMENT IDEA: MAKE A DIG BOX

Digging is a great behaviour to give rabbits an appropriate outlet for, and you can create a simple enrichment activity without needing anything elaborate.

Start with a sturdy container that your rabbit can get in and out of comfortably, then add suitable materials for them to investigate.

Ideas can include:

📦 Shredded plain cardboard or paper
🌾 Hay
🧻 Plain cardboard tubes
📄 Scrunched plain paper
🌿 A little rabbit-safe forage hidden amongst it
Scatter the contents loosely rather than packing everything tightly, then let your rabbits investigate it in their own way.

Keep the box clean and dry, remove anything heavily chewed or soiled when needed, and supervise when introducing new enrichment materials.
Some rabbits will carefully investigate it.

Others will redecorate the entire room within approximately seven seconds. 😂🐇

🐰💚 YOUR WEEKEND BUNNY CHECK

Rabbits can be very good at hiding when something isn’t quite right, so getting into the habit of giving them a quick regular check is really worthwhile.

Take a few moments today to look at:

👀 Eyes & nose — clean and free from unusual discharge
🌿 Eating — are they eating normally and showing their usual enthusiasm for food?
💩 Droppings — are they producing their normal amount and type?
🐰 Bottom & tail — check that the area is clean and dry
🚶 Movement — are they moving around normally and comfortably?
💧 Water — check bowls and bottles are clean, working and topped up
❤️ Behaviour — you know your rabbits best, so pay attention to anything that seems different from normal

During warmer weather, checking around the bottom and tail is particularly important. The RSPCA advises daily rabbit health monitoring and more frequent checks of this area during warm conditions.

If your rabbit stops eating, produces fewer or no droppings, or you notice something that concerns you, contact your vet promptly.
