I went to a CPD event last week and learnt about the canine cruciate register.
If your dog is due to have surgery or has recently had surgery regardless of what type of proceedure the registry want to know. They are collecting the data to track outcomes to help the future of the treatment options.
Owners and vets can register.

GOOD NEWS FOR LOVERS OF INDEPENDENT VETERINARY PRACTICES.

In order to bring you an accurate list of over 2000 independent practices in the UK I need to keep data on all 5626 practices. This total includes nearly 60% corporates of which 2956 are owned by one of the big six. I regularly check ownership of all these practices.

According to my recent review of all the practices it appears that over the last year 215 practices have opened. Of these only 25 (11%) are owned by one of the big six corporates.

Over the same period a very similar number - 217 to be exact - have closed. Of these a whopping 149 (68%) are one of the big six. One of the big six has closed 46 practices over this last year and another has closed 40, their place (and maybe their staff) in the figures at least being taken by independents including a smattering of mobile practices - keeping the overall number of practices fairly constant over the past year but now with fewer corporates.

Have a good Bank Holiday weekend everyone!

Please share the good news!

John

Does your dog take part in agility? We want to hear from you!

We are inviting people who take part in dog agility with their pooches to tell us about their experiences.

The study is being undertaken by Veterinary Physiotherapy Postgraduate Student Brónagh as part of her master's degree at the University of Liverpool.

Brónagh says:
“I have been involved in dog agility for the last 10 years with my 3 dogs Zeus, Strike and Gunther. During this time, I have developed a keen interest in preventing injuries in agility dogs.
This study is aimed at anyone who trains or competes in dog agility within the U.K. and Ireland. Your dog does not have to have sustained an injury for you to participate as all answers are extremely valuable for this research.”

If you would like to participate (the questionnaire is completely anonymous), please click on the link below or scan the QR code in the image and read through the information sheet before completing the online survey.

Thank you in advance for participating. Your involvement is invaluable in helping us improve our understanding of this important area of canine health.

MYTH: Medication is the only effective way to manage osteoarthritis (OA) pain in dogs.

✅ Fact: Recent clinical research shows that weight loss, regular physical activity, and increased muscle strength are some of the most effective strategies for reducing pain and improving mobility in OA patients — both human and canine.

These non-pharmaceutical interventions play a critical role in long-term management ✨
