Say hello to Skipper!
This amazing Welsh D x TB cross has been a one-eyed warrior since he was just two years old. While that might have been a challenge for some, Skipper decided to embrace life instead. Whether he’s navigating busy roads with total composure or putting his heart and soul into his dressage tests, he tackles everything with enthusiasm. Come winter, he’s famous for his excited squeals and bunny-hop displays!
Skipper’s journey is truly inspiring. If you’re caring for a horse with vision loss, here are a few tips to keep them confident:
👀 When approaching, always ensure you make a little noise or speak to him from his blind side so you don't startle him. He’s built up a lot of trust, but it’s a great habit for visitors to have!
🚗 His ability to handle traffic is huge. It shows he has an incredible sense of trust in his rider. Maintaining that calm, reassuring presence when hacking is the key to his continued success.
💃 Riding a one-eyed horse in dressage requires a little extra attention to straightness, as they may naturally drift toward their blind side. Skipper’s dedication to the sport is a wonderful way to keep his brain and body balanced!
