Milarn and Abby working on energy down and energy up.

This is Abby’s second time cantering today ever under saddle. She is doing a marvellous job.

Milarn wanted to do some canter work and asked Abby what she thought as they were walking around and as soon as she said okay we can canter, he popped straight into canter from walk using Abby’s voice as a cue.

She was surprised he knew the word so well and wasn’t expecting him to just do it so she had a giggle and next time balanced herself and him a little better and then asked again.

These two have come a long way, I really am proud of how their constant work on their relationship first which makes for a very willing horse and partnership 💜

********** 🍀 A LOVE STORY 🍀 ***********

CHAPTER ONE:

Once upon a time in a far away land ( The Hawkesbury) lived a horse named Anchor and lady named Megan. As fate would have it, these two would embark on a forever journey together.

Anchor was surrendered and left on our property, a little while ago. We decided he could join our herd and if we could find him a forever home and someone who would really love him, only then would we move him on.

We discovered that Anchor was having some problems with his feet. He would go extremely lame and then a few days later be fine. We got a few different farriers in to have a look but nothing could ever be found.

We decided we needed the vet to get some x rays and some extra expertise. I was planning on calling that afternoon once I had finished with lessons…….. but as the universe has it…… it threw out a path I never thought about…..

CHAPTER TWO:

There is a beautiful woman named Megan who lives in a far away land with her horse Indy ( also the Hawkesbury) who recently lost her forever horse Billy to colic. After many chats about whether or not to get another horse it was decided that waiting was the best thing to do, and maybe keep an eye out for a smaller pony as a friend for her horse Indy.

Megan had sent through a few different ponies to get thoughts on but nothing eventuated until fate bought Megan to our property to visit a friend.

I was walking past and saw Megan, I had just put Anchor in the stable with a poultice to rest. I went over and said hello, and was chatting about what I was doing, halfway through my rambling BAM! It hit me….. I looked at Megan, I looked at anchor looking at Megan and I said, ummmm do you want to meet Anchor?!?! I told her the story and before I knew it she was over there chatting away to him.

At this point I totally forgot that I had to meet our fabulous vet Dougie at another property and Dougie forgot that he was meant to go to the other place to meet me and instead turned up at our property right when Megan and I were with Anchor…. BOOM….. now the three of us were with Anchor and Dougie was sussing out the situation with him.

Before I knew it, Megan and Dougie were off together trying to fix Anchor and I was just sitting quietly in the background watching this all unfold before my eyes.

CHAPTER 3:

Megan asked if she could spend some time
With Anchor, that time turned into everyday. It turned into herbal medicines for his foot, it turned into a brand new rug, it turned into new fly boots, it turned into going for small walks to help Anchor get better, it turned into bandage changes, it turned into new shoes for Anchor, it turned into a new saddle and gear and 6 weeks later here we are………

Anchor healed through love, no more lameness and that time spent loving him and asking nothing from him got them to this moment right now. This is the first time Anchor has been ridden in I have…. no idea, we don’t know the ins and outs of what he knows under saddle, but what we do know is, he gave Megan all the yes’s in the world.

For legal reasons we had to have a transaction history on record, so Megan bought Anchor for a $1 as a Christmas present to herself.

She told me today it was the best $1 she had ever spent and I would absolutely agree. She even picked out a show name if they get to the ring DOLLAR DAZZLER…. We love that!

And well yeah they lived happily ever after…… Well, to be truthful, there will be many more adventurous from these two to come but we do wish them a very happily ever after 💜🍀🌸

I got this amazing video today of Michelle’s session with her gorgeous brumby Bella.

Michelle and Bella are going back through their steps over the last few weeks after Bella became uncomfortable and anxious being under saddle. She started rushing, became humpy and even threw in some pigroots.

Michelle immediately stopped and went back to the start and worked on each step. Fast forward a few weeks and this is where they are at.

I really am proud of Michelle’s leadership, her communication skills and choosing what is best for her horse and their partnership.

Sometimes going back through steps is in fact taking bigger steps forward

Well done guys. Super proud 🌸

It really is something special when your horse feels comfortable enough to lay down or go for a roll next to you.

It shows that the horse trusts in your leadership, it shows that your horse trusts in you to keep him safe and the most important thing it shows is that your horse does not see you as a predator, he accepts you as his herd, and that is one of the most beautiful moments of connection in one’s relationship you can work towards.

Well done Kate for stripping it back with Mouse and showing that what seems like a whole lot of not doing anything is actually in fact everything!

*********🍀 THE COMMON THEME 🍀 *********

Three of my beautiful students in their lessons over the last couple of days showing a common theme…… Relaxing and taking it easy!

I think at times we get to over focused on what we are trying to achieve, and forget about where the magic actually lives. Our expectations become to much, and we forget to reward the smallest try. We are in a rush, and forget the pause which causes both horse and person to stop breathing together, therefore affecting the bond and the relationship between two souls.

I know I also make mistakes with my own horses in this area, after all we are only human, but when we do realise our mistakes, it is only then we can go forth once again and build the path the right way.

What is the right way?!?! Well this is of course open to interpretation, however, for me, there is no way forward without both horse and rider being able to create a relaxing space to work in.

It is not going backwards in your training by taking a step back and slowing down, in actual fact it’s a progression forward.

Well done Sienna and smudge, you guys did a fabulous job working on your relaxation.

Well done Lynette and Ode for stripping it back and being brave enough for Ode to take you for a ride today.

And well done Michelle and Bella for going back through your steps to find an answer you were seeking by keeping it simple.

Abby and Milarn’s lesson today. Their first complete liberty ride.

We have done a lot of different combinations and relationship work over the last year and today it started to all come together for these guys.

Super well done 💜🌸🍀

What a great start to 2023!

Harry taking Ainslee for a ride in today’s lesson.
We started with some in hand work, followed by some mounting block and wait games and finishing with Harry deciding where he wanted to go from the sand arena. Apparently the jump arena was where he wanted to explore today.

Well done Ainslee and Harry. Fabulous work 💜

Hey guys,

Lessons will start again this week. I am back from my break.

Coaching students, your regular days and times will stay the same. If you’re still on holidays please let me know and we will start when you get back.

As of March, I will not be doing private instructing lessons for those who are not under a coaching contract. If you would like to enter into a coaching/student partnership please let me know and an assessment can be arranged.

I will be more focused on small clinic groups for those who are not being coached or who are just wanting support from time to time.

Look forward to creating magic with my beautiful students and newcomers this year 💜

Love this! Advancing on the right path!

Advancing is…

When it comes to being ‘advanced’ horsemen and horsewomen, sometimes we focus too much on the manoeuvres or techniques rather than the person we need to be.

Anyone can push, pull, force or coerce a ‘high level manoeuvre’ a true horse person can conduct him or herself with presence, compassion, feel and connection, making even the simplest of tasks appear magic ✨

Focus on your own development, and the rest will happen.
