π¨ Heatwave Notice: Walk Cancellations & Safety Advice π¨
Pet Sitting by Nicola will not be offering any dog walks tomorrow Tues 26th May (including very early morning walks) to ensure safety in this extreme heat π₯΅
Instead, all scheduled visits will focus on enrichment activities, a toilet break in the garden, and keeping your dogs cool. π¦βοΈ Frozen treats and mental stimulation are excellent ways to keep your pups entertained and safe when itβs too dangerous for walks.
π‘ Before You Leave for Work: Home Prep
With many people heading back to work tomorrow, please prep your home in the morning (I know most of you already do this!):
* Close Blinds & Curtains: Block out direct sunlight from early in the morning.
* Create Airflow (if you donβt have aircon): Leave safe, out-of-reach windows cracked open upstairs and set up secure electric fans to keep air moving.
* Double the Water + Ice: Leave out extra water bowls with ice cubes in. Pets must have fresh water access 24/7.
* Access to Cool Floors: Ensure your dog can reach tiled or uncarpeted areas (like kitchens/bathrooms). Do not leave dogs in crates, or with access to conservatories or porches.
* Leave out cool mats with safety in mind: If your dog is a chewer, use a fabric "Ice Silk" mat instead of a gel-filled one. They are 100% non-toxic, chemical-free, and draw heat away naturally using breathable mesh layers.
* Frozen Breakfast: Perhaps prep and freeze your dogβs breakfast the night before to keep them cool early on.
βοΈ Night-Before Visit Prep Request!
To help me make your dog's visit as enriching as possible, please prepare frozen KONGs/lick mats, or frozen treats tonight. I will use these during my visit, or give them as I leave, to keep the pups cool and occupied!
Quick Ideas to Prep Tonight:
* The Pro KONG: Block the small hole with dog-safe peanut butter, fill with wet food or soaked kibble, and freeze upright.
* Yogurt & Banana: Mix mashed banana with plain Greek yogurt or kefir, spread it onto a lick mat, and freeze.
* Easy Fruit Mix: Mash a ripe banana and blueberries with a splash of water, fill your toy, and freeze.
π¦ Activity Prep for the Visit
* Paddling Pools: If you have a doggy paddling pool, please leave it in a shaded spot and partly fill it with cold water. I will top it up for ball-bobbing games!
* Puzzles & other Games: Leave out your dog's favourite puzzle toy, other toys they like, and some kibble, treats, or veggies so I can set up "find it" and scatter games.
Thank you all so much for your incredible support and cooperation in keeping your dogs safe and comfortable in this extreme weather! ππΆβ€οΈ
