This time of year so many horses are living out, and whether yours is competing at the weekend or grazing through the summer, the hindgut is under pressure either way.

Changes in grazing, grass flushes, altered drinking patterns, the heat itself all affect the hindgut environment.

When the pH tips out of its normal range the bacteria that break down fibre and keep your horse feeling well start to struggle. You’ll often see it before you can explain it. Girthy. Off their feed. Not quite themselves.

It’s easy to think of gut support as something for the horse in hard work. But the horse living out right now is dealing with some of the biggest hindgut stressors of the year and they don’t always show it in obvious ways until it’s been building for a while.

Keeping that hindgut pH stable isn’t just about digestion. When the environment is balanced, fibre breaks down efficiently, nutrients are absorbed properly and the beneficial bacteria that support immunity, energy and overall wellbeing can do their job. When it isn’t, all of that starts to unravel.

It’s about how the whole horse feels and functions. Every day, not just on competition day.

For a lot of riders right now, competing means travelling first. And in this heat, the journey is as demanding as the competition itself. Hours on the lorry, not drinking normally — your horse arrives already under pressure before they’ve even competed.

Here’s how to support them through both.
In this heat they’re losing electrolytes constantly — competing, travelling, just standing in the sun. Maximum Muscle Recovery with Electrolytes replaces what they’re losing — but it goes further than a standard electrolyte product.
Hard work generates free radicals in the muscles that cause oxidative damage and slow recovery.
Horses can’t produce Vitamin E themselves — it’s their primary defence against that damage. We use RRR alpha tocopherol, the natural form, significantly more bioavailable than the synthetic version in most supplements.
Tart cherry and amino acids alongside it for recovery support.

Start two to three days before you travel or compete and keep going for a few days after. You’ll notice the difference in how they come home.

Saturday mornings are often a time of reflection for me. I’m sat here in the sunshine having a coffee with our mad spaniel thinking about yesterday. Yesterday I had four customers call the office just to tell me how much they love our products, and honestly it stopped me in my tracks.

Six years ago I never imagined this is where I’d be. A small business owner doing things on my own, & it can feel daunting at times. And if I’m honest, lately I’ve been feeling a little flat and losing a bit of belief.

But yesterday four phone calls changed all of that and reminded me exactly why I do this. Four calls just to tell us how much they love our products and the difference they’ve made to their horses.

Although I am a solo owner, I have the most incredible small team of people around me who have helped bring amazing products to market.

In terms of market share we are tiny, but when customers make the effort to call just to say how much they love our products and that they’ve been recommended because they work, it literally makes my day, my week, my year. Sometimes when you’re a small fish in a very large pond it’s easy to lose belief, but those calls and messages remind me exactly why I love what I do

I love this community we have. And I hope that if we’re ever fortunate enough to become a big fish, we still have the same community feel and that it’s still me answering the phone and replying to your WhatsApps.
