Ashley and Faye won the ghost and spider teddy on Monday and Thursday.🕷️👻

Faye took part in agility training outside and worked really hard with all of the dogs🐶

Ashley worked hard to get the hedgehog house ready and also took part in the scavenger hunt at the begining of the week. 🎃

Well done both!

Congratulations to our newest SPPOT Foundation Skills graduates, Atlas and Dotty!!

Each team has shown fantastic progress - building stronger focus, confidence and communication along the way. We also sadly missed Walter and Olwyn tonight, but wish you both the best with your future training.

Our next course will begin 12th November, and is perfect for puppies, rescue dogs and anyone wanting to build better focus, manners and confidence.

It's that week again!

Halloween has grown and grown in popularity with people in the last twenty years, but not with dogs!

People in strange costumes and masks can be extremely frightening for many dogs and many Halloween playlists have strange sound effects and of course, someone will start the fireworks early as well!

Most dogs do not like parties or 'trick or treat', so think ahead about how you can keep your dog safe and relaxed. Could he/she go to a relative for the evening or could their bed be moved somewhere quieter or away from the door, or their crate covered with a blanket on three sides?

Would natural calming supplements help from now until after Bonfire Night?

One hugely important thing to say, is please don't dress your dog up, just because you/your kids love Halloween/Christmas

A few dogs like dressing up, but most really don't, so it's unkind and unnecessary to make them. If your dog likes a jumper in colder weather, maybe just a themed one and forget the spider legs

In the photo Mirri has a small pumpkin hat because that's all she's happy with - evident in the big relaxed grin.

Dogs are such a huge part of family life but they don't like doing some human activities anymore than you like chasing squirrels or peeing in the garden!

🐾 Start with the Foundations, Build for Life! 🐾

At SPPOT, we believe great training begins with great foundations. As APDT-accredited, science-based trainers, we use positive reinforcement to help your dog master the essentials - sit, lie down, wait, recall, loose lead and more - all while building confidence, trust, and joy in learning.

Our approach is grounded in modern behavioural science (no force, no fear, no outdated “alpha” talk). Just clear communication, achievable goals, and lots of happy tail wags.

🐶 Spaces are still available for our upcoming foundation classes starting 23rd October and 12th November - don’t miss your chance to start your dog’s training journey the right way! Bookings can be made on our website (https://sppot.co.uk/dog-puppy-training/)

Because when your dog understands what’s being asked - and feels good about doing it - you both win. 💛

Practice makes perfect!

This week we have been practicing putting the harness on our trusty training dog Biscuit! 🐶

Learning to fit the harness properly is such an important skill to keep our dogs at SPPOT safe.

Sammy was just getting the long line out of the dog walking bag - but every photo tells a story......

This one is the story of training all our volunteers how to properly prepare for a dog walk, with lightweight waterproofs, biothane line for free but safe running, treat bag at the ready for recall training, plus water bowl, dog first aid kit and poo bag holder 😀

SPPOT - Supporting People & Pets through Opportunity & Training

SPPOT is a unique social enterprise offering dogs and their human families, a highly affordable, award winning dog walking service across Pembrokeshire and high quality daycare for dogs.

We are able to embed positive reward based training into our dog walking and daycare services, because all our staff and volunteers are themselves qualified and accredited in dog care, training and welfare.

SPPOT is an Agored Cymru Recognised Centre, delivering accredited training courses in canine training and welfare for adults and young people who experience barriers to work and education. This enables trainees to become part of SPPOT’s team as Volunteer Dog Walkers who walk dogs all over Pembrokeshire and K9 Keyworkers who volunteer their time at our dedicated headquarters in Haverfordwest providing high quality daycare for dogs.

The dog walking & daycare are offered at a competitive rates for the general public with a significant concession for vulnerable people in the community. Thus we can bring together the needs of two people, through shared care of a dog, benefiting both people and the dog. Dogs are scientifically proven to be of significant health and social benefit to people, therefore SPPOT’s progressive enterprise model will reduce dependence on health and social care services which are already under strain. People also have the capacity to reduce the suffering and neglect of dogs.
