So this is getting shared around the dog community today and I want to thank my clients for not being this person.

When it's too hot for walks and I have to resort to drops ins, I take the financial hit. Where an hours dog walk would cost £13 per dog, I charge £10 per half hour drop in. Same as what I charge for half hour group walks.

Reading this made my blood evaporate as it was already boiling in the heat! I feel sorry for this person's dog walker because they obviously aren't valued at all.

This is how we make a living. It's not a side hustle or a hobby. It's how we pay our bills. Last week I had dogs off due to kennel cough. This week it's the heat too. People are working from home because of it so don't need any pop ins. Luckily, its a 5 week month so that will help a little. If this is going to be the new normal for our summers then I dont know what I will do.

This person has really #%%&! # #@ me off! I dont even charge for long or short notice cancellations. I was going to start charging a call out fee after I couldn't get into a house a few times but never did. Am I a mug? I dont think so. I just value my clients who were there for me when I had to keep cancelling or changing things when my parents were going through Alzheimers and cancer. I hope this dog walker drops this client.

House visits only, no matter how exited they get because they think youre taking them in the car. They eventually realise they aren't going anywhere and do what they've got to do in the garden.

It may seem cold and uncaring to some since Jovi has only been gone a week. But I have been through so much grief and bereavement over the last six years, I know i can grieve for her and bond with a new bird at the same time.
I miss Jovi like crazy. She was such an adorable and funny little character, and it's been incredibly hard just getting up in the mornings as when she heard me moving around upstairs, she would start calling me from her cage. She would sometimes do it at night after I covered her up, and I'd shout, "Go to sleep!". She'd always answer back in bird language. Probably cursing at me.
The trauma of seeing the incident happen and then her passing away in my hands will stay with me forever. Just like the other 6 deaths I've been present for since 2020. But I know it will get easier with time.

For those who don't know, one of these bereavements was my Dad in 2024. Just 4 months after my Mum. I get my love for birds from him, and because it's father's day, I've named my new baby boy after him that I collected this morning.

Update on the kennel cough. Another one has started coughing and has been to the vets. Again, unconfirmed but likely, so thats how they are treating it. Loxicom and no collars.
Luckily all are vaccinated so will only have mild cases. I still feel for the little Pickles though 😢

With dogs off because they've possibly had KC, others on house visits only and others taking the rest of the week off as a precaution, it was just me and Tilly on a 2 hour trek in the woods today. We didn't actually get lost, but I couldn't tell you exactly where we've been either! It was also a bit warm for wellies but unfortunately my walking boots were still wet from yesterday's huge cleaning/disinfecting session.

There is currently an unconfirmed kennel cough outbreak amongst my dogs. 3 have been coughing/ sneezing but since they are all vaccinated and are healthy, they only have mild cases. One has been to the vets and they have said its very likely kennel cough.

Giving them the vaccine does not mean they won't get it. Like us, with the flu vaccine, it means its alot less likely and if they do, will be very mild. BUT they are still contagious.

I work with all sorts of dogs including older ones, very old ones and frail ones. Also, you never know if your dog has an underlying condition that hasn't been discovered yet that could mean contracting kennel cough would cause significant distress and illness.

This is the first time I've dealt with a possible outbreak and although I insist my clients inform me of any new illness, I know its not always going to be possible to catch it before it runs rampant.

This is costing me a small fortune as this is how I earn a living. And yesterday I had to let people down at the last minute so I could throughly disinfect my car. BUT your dog's satefy is my priority.

Going forwards, I have to insist on any dog thats possibly got it, to not get in my car and walk with others for 2 weeks AFTER they have stopped coughing/sneezing. I can possibly do house visits if really needed. And each time a dog gets the nasal spray vaccine, i feel they should have 3 days off before mixing with the others but if they have Nobirac Respira Bb injection, they can come out straight away.

I hope everyone is understanding of these new rules for my business.

This morning a second pooch has gone off sick with a cough and I'm not taking any chances. Walks are cancelled today whilst I strip out the doggo mobil, disinfect everything and wash towels etc before tumble drying on a high heat.

It is with deep sadness that I have to let you all know my beautiful rainbow chicken crossed the rainbow bridge this morning. She slipped away as I held her in my hands after a tragic accident. Im devastated and the house is already too quiet.

So we went to the Hawk Conservancy yesterday for my stepdaughter's birthday. I love birds and this experience was truly awesome. It's hard to get across how big some of these birds are and how close you get to them! Well worth a visit and make sure you catch all three shows!
