The NDTR would like to remind breeders, especially gundog breeders, of the importance of tattooing their litters before they leave the nest. They can thus be traced back to their breeder should their owner(s) not be reached. The problem of dog theft is rife and the tottoo is a good deterrent.

The NDTR would like to remind breeders of the importance of having their litters tattooed, ideally at 7 weeks old, to ensure that they are identifiable before they leave the nest for their new homes. It has happened that puppies have bolted and if the breeder is on the database, the puppies can be traced back to them at least. It is an effective deterrent to the rising number of dog thieves and just one more thing we can do in an effort to keep our canines safe and traceable should the need arise.

Over the weekend the NDTR received a phone call from a member of the public, saying that they had come across a Golden Retriever with an ear tattoo, number T4Z0264, a check of the database showed she was a very elderly female. The information was passed on to the "finder" they contacted the owner, and fortunately all ended well, and very smoothly. The tattoo its self was carried out when the Retriever was approximately six to seven weeks old, she is now going on for 12 yrs, the person read the number off as easily as if it had been carried out weeks ago.

The tattoo will not prevent your dog from being taken but, there will be a far better chance of the dog being returned.

The tattoo cannot be removed or altered, without it being completely obvious.

You know it makes sense !

THE NDTR WOULD LIKE TO WISH EVERYONE SEASONAL GREETINGS. THANK YOU TO ALL THE OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD THEIR DOGS TATTOOED IN 2020, ESPECIALLY THE GUNDOGS. THE TATTOO IS STILL THE SAFEST WAY TO IDENTIFY YOUR DOGS AND VERY MUCH THE MOST EFFECTIVE DETERRENT TO DOG THIEVES, BEING VISIBLE AND USER FRIENDLY. THE TATTOO CONTINUES TO REUNITE DOGS AND OWNERS; USE THE TATTOO, IT MAKES MORE SENSE THAN EVER BEFORE!

Hello to all dog breeders and owners. I hope you are keeping well in these so difficult times. Obviously tattooing has had to stop for very critical reasons. I just want to remind every one that we are still available for lost or stolen dogs, so if the worst happens breeders and owners can still phone in and we will set about hopefully getting dogs back to their owners.

I want to wish you all the very best in the coming weeks and months. I myself will be walking my Shepherd Abby very early in the mornings, so I wont be a danger to anyone.

All the very best to you all, try to keep well as we all have our canine responsibilities!

Take care Gill Christian NDTR
