Recognising Signs of Overheating in Dogs 🐶🚨
As the summer heat intensifies, it's crucial to keep a close eye on our dogs to ensure they stay cool and safe. Dogs can easily overheat, and it’s important to recognise the signs early.
Here are some key symptoms of overheating in dogs:
⚠️ Excessive Panting: Dogs pant to cool down, but heavy, rapid panting is a primary sign of overheating.
⚠️Drooling: Increased drooling, especially thick or sticky saliva, can indicate your dog is too hot.
⚠️ Lethargy: If your dog seems unusually tired, weak, or reluctant to move, they may be overheating.
⚠️ Bright Red or Pale Gums: Check your dog’s gums; bright red or pale gums can signal heat stress.
Increased Heart Rate: An elevated heart rate is another sign that your dog might be overheating.
⚠️ Vomiting or Diarrhea: These can be serious symptoms of heatstroke and require immediate attention.
⚠️ Unsteady on legs: If your dog is stumbling or seems uncoorindated, it can be a sign they are in distress from the heat.
⚠️ Collapse: In extreme cases, dogs may collapse or lose consciousness due to severe overheating.
What to Do:
🐾 Move your dog to a cool, shaded area immediately.
🐾 Offer small amounts of cool water to drink.
🐾 Wet their paws and fur with cool water.
🐾 Use a fan to help cool them down.
🐾 Seek veterinary care immediately if symptoms persist.
Prevention is key! Ensure your dog has plenty of water, shade, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest parts of the day.
Let’s keep our pets safe and cool this summer! 🐾💦
