💨 If these high winds continue into tomorrow, walks may be reduced for health and safety reasons.
Key Risks of Walking Dogs in High Winds:
• Falling debris: Strong gusts can snap tree branches, knock over fences, or send loose outdoor items flying - reports all over Harrogate of fallen trees and blocked roads.
• Panic and bolting: Sudden loud crashes, howling wind, and flying objects can startle even a calm dog into pulling, panicking, or darting away - I’ll be walking on lead only as a precautionary measure.
• Sensory overload: High winds carry scents further and distort sounds, which easily disorientates and overwhelms dogs
🐶 The little dogs, Tink, Tilly & Bailey will not be walking, little dogs ears are highly sensitive to wind plus they have a larger surface area to volume ratio, they lose their trapped layer of body heat incredibly quickly in high winds. This makes them shiver and freeze much faster than a larger breed on the exact same walk.
Keeping our dogs safe is my priority.
