🐶 Every year on on August 26th, National & International Dog Day celebrates the bond between humans and dogs while spotlighting the many dogs still in need of a loving home. It’s a day for dog lovers to honor their furry companions, advocate for better treatment of animals, and support rescue and adoption efforts. Whether your best friend has been with you for years or you’re just beginning your journey together, National Dog Day is about recognising the role dogs play in our lives – and how we can give back.

What is National Dog Day?
National Dog Day is a celebration of all dogs – mixed breed and pure. Founded in 2004 by pet advocate Colleen Paige, the day was created not only to honor dogs for their companionship, loyalty, and bravery, but also to raise awareness about the large number of dogs that need to be rescued every year. The day calls attention to dogs in shelters, the importance of adoption, and issues like puppy mills, breed-specific legislation, and animal cruelty. From service dogs and working dogs to family pets and strays, National Dog Day embraces them all.

We’ve had messages from concerned members of the public about dogs being exposed to loud music at events 🎶

Their hearing is sensitive, and what’s fun for us can be overwhelming and harmful for our dogs. As much as we love sharing special moments with them, not every setting is appropriate.

Sometimes the kindest choice is to not bring our pooches along, so they stay safe and relaxed at home.
